Florida fishing regulations:
http://myfwc.com/docs/RulesRegulations/2009_July_RegsSummary_Chart.pdf
| Quote: | Basic recreational saltwater fishing regulations
This brief summary of regulations governs the taking of saltwater species in Florida state waters for personal use. It is not applicable to the commercial harvesting of these species. The absence of complete laws, rules and regulations in this summary does not relieve persons from compliance with those laws, rules or regulations. State waters extend to 3 nautical miles on the Atlantic and 9 nautical miles on the Gulf. Federal rules apply beyond state waters. For species that do not have an established bag limit, more than 100 pounds or two fish per harvester per day (whichever is greater), is considered commercial quantities. A saltwater products license and commercial vessel registration are required to harvest commercial quantities of unregulated species. It is illegal to sell recreationally harvested fish without compliance with commercial license requirements. Issue Thirty Five, July 2009 Highlights indicate recent regulation changes. |

Florida's new shoreline fishing license requirement

Florida's new shoreline fishing license requirement takes effect Aug. 1. Resident anglers who fish for saltwater species from shore or a structure affixed to shore must have a $9 shoreline fishing license or a $17 regular saltwater fishing license.
Nonresident anglers need a regular nonresident saltwater fishing license to fish from shore or from a vessel. Short-term and annual nonresident fishing licenses cost between $17 and $47.
Additional fees may apply to all fishing licenses, depending on where an angler purchases the license.
The shoreline requirement allows exemptions for resident anglers who fish in their home county, using live or natural bait, on a line or pole without a line-retrieval mechanism. This exemption does not apply to anglers who use nets, traps, gigs, spears or who gather seafood by hand or any type of gear other than hook and line.
Other exemptions apply for anglers who qualify for temporary cash assistance, food stamps or Medicaid. Also, resident anglers who are age 65 or older and children under age 16 may fish without a license. Active-duty military personnel may fish without a license while home on leave in Florida.
Licensed fishing piers have licenses that cover everyone who fishes from them.
The FWC suggests the $17 regular saltwater fishing license may be the best option for most resident anglers unless they are certain they will fish only from shore or a structure affixed to shore all year.
By creating the shoreline fishing license, the Florida Legislature arranged for Florida anglers to be exempt from a more expensive federal angler registration requirement that will take effect in 2011.

Can anyone clarify for me, is the license exemption part of the pier's license to charge admission to the pier or is it an additional license the piers buy as a courtesy to anglers without a license or an exemption? If it is the later are any of the piers talking of possibly dropping that portion of their license? _________________ It's my duty to make fish pay for their mistakes. |

All of the FL panhandle piers are covered. If you don't have a fishing license (locals or tourists) you can still fish them. You are covered. Each of the piers buy a "blanket license" that covers everybody they charge admission to. Panama City, Okaloosa, Pensacola, and Ft Pickens. I'm sure Navarre will be covered. I have heard some rumors that Pensacola will not be renewing their blanket license but I don't know the validity of that. _________________ Calvin Martin

I think that would be a big mistake with all the other piers opening. It might cut down on the hardtail fishing though. _________________ Rob

I was just wondering. the last couple of years i have been buying a license to fish in the surf. Have i been wasting my money the last couple of years. I was always told that if you fish in the surf you had to have a saltwater license. Not that it really matters but I was just wondering if i was told wrong in the past _________________ Brad Tucker

FL residents used to not need them if you were fishing from shore or a structure affixed to shore (pier, bridge, dock, jetty). I don't remember if that applied to non residents or not. _________________ Calvin Martin

That might have been what it was Calvin. Being a non resident I needed to have one. I didn't think about it that way. I know I was told by several people in the past that i had to have one to fish in the surf or jetty and as far as the gulf piers that i didn't have to have one. _________________ Brad Tucker

JUST REMEMBER, IF YOU GO TO THE GULF SHORES PIER, YOU MUST HAVE A NON-RESIDENT SALTWATER LICENSE. ALL CURRENT LICENSES WILL EXPIRE MIDNIGHT 8/31/09 AND A NEW LICENSE REQUIRED 9/1/09.
LOTS OF GOOD FISHING OVER THERE.

CRAP! I thought that Alabama's license season ran from August 1 to July 31. I got it straight now. A new license plate for my vehicles in May, a new Louisiana fishing license in June, a Florida license in July and then Alabama in August. _________________ It's my duty to make fish pay for their mistakes. |

Guess What.
They are suppose to be appealing the new law for saltwater fishing license from shore or wading out.
The is some other law that prohibits them from charging for a license to fish from shore.
