If you have some pics of homemade carts you've made please post them. Just looking for some ideas. Most likely going to start with a handtruck, but I'm thinking of adding a box w/ some rod holders and some racks, switching out the axle and wheels, and adding a fold out cutting board. I'd appreciate any idea's you guys have. Got to keep it somewhat light and portable though. Trying to find a light handtruck that's easier to haul around to the beach and pier. Thanks guys in advance.

Light isn't exactly what you will have with most of the hand trucks because the non-commercial ones will be made of steel. The good ones like I use at work are REALLY high and for the price you could get a couple real pier carts. I had one made from a garden cart, but that thing was bulky and heavy. _________________ Master of the obvious... |

I should get one of those "Hover-rounds" and install rod holders. _________________ This message was brought to you by the Partnership for a Googan-Free America. |

Nice. I had looked at some of those, but wasn't sure how sturdy it would be. Still be handy to have though.

Ya was kind of realizing that, the rolleez people have kind of a hand dolly for $99 that I was considering using. Or maybe even making kind of a pvc hand truck. Considered making it where I could lean it over on the sand and add kind of a sled piece so it would pull on top of the sand but I don't know. |

| I just took a stock Igloo wheeled cooler and added 3 rod holders to the front side of it. Works OK, but you have to cut a decent king and fold it in half to get it in. It's not fancy or permanent, but gets the job done, and doesn't take up a lot of space in the garage. |

PVC , 5/8 steel rod ,two never flat tires ($25 each) some type of caster for front end ,nuts and bolts for the rod holders , some type of flooring, doesnt have to be much ,hell you dont have to even glue it together (might want to change it later). If youve been to GSP much youve seen mine works great, a lot wider than the aluminum ones you buy. The only problem i had was comin up w/ a good idea for a handle so i made one out of left over pvc. _________________ "I may be ugly, but at least i ain't got no money" |

The best cart I have is a garden cart I bought from Home Depot for $100.
I used electrical ties to place rod holders made out of 2 inch PVC where I wanted them. About $115 invested but I didn't get anything on sale. I paid $99 for the cart and I have seen them for $69 here in Atlanta.
I pulled it everyday from the Calypso to the pier and back with not much trouble.
However, it isn't all that portable if you do not have a truck. |

When my tires went on my cooler cart I went to Ace Hardware and bought one of these to use. Works well and folds flat to go in my Honda trunk.

Fish Addict and Bob. We are bound to have some cosmic connection. Having to drive from LA with a family, my hauling space is always liimited. I took a wheelie cool cooler, cut a 14 inch piece of one by, some screws and some inch and a half pvc, some bungies for the tackle box and rocket launchers and made a pretty workable pier cart. I agree for a big king you have to be resourceful, but it cheap, portable, and it will do the job. I would send some pics but I am kinda rushed right now. Here is one I made of PVC. Works pretty well. Not thrilled with the handle situation. Needs something stiffer. It is not all glued so it will take down for travel. It could be made to fit a larger cooler or whatever else you have.

Folded size: 29.49" L x 20.20" W x 7.99" H

I gave $50.00 plus tax at the Ace on Backbeach Rd. in PCB. It was on closeout sale. _________________

I PICKED UP A NEW ONE MY BROTHER CHARLES, WHO IS LEARING TO PIER FISH AT GSH PIER, MADE FROM HEAVY DUTY ALUMINUM I WILL GET HIM TO POST A PICTURE ON THE WEB SITE WITH HIS PHONE NUMBER. THIS ONE WILL HOLD A 120-150 QT IGLOO COOLER AND HAS 6 ROD HOLDERS PLUS TWO SHELVES FOR TACKLE BOX, ETC. I WILL TRY IT OUT TOMORROW AT OIP. HE TOLD ME THAT HE WILL CUSTOM MAKE ONE FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS ONE. THE FILIP SIDE TO THIS, THIS IS A TWO IN ONE CART. HE MADE THE ORIGINAL ONE TO HAUL DEER OUT OF THE WOODS, THAT IT WOULD GO OVER LOGS AND THRU BRUSH BETTER THAN ANYTHING HE HAD EVER USED BEFORE. HE IS ONE OF THOSE GUYS THAT CAN BUILD ANYTHING OUT OF METAL. _________________ HAPPY HOOKIN'

The $199.00 price is for two. Regular retail is $100.00 each. You can find them cheaper by looking. _________________

| Thanks for posting guys. Got a crate for free from some friends yesterday that I attached some pvc rod holders to and tossed on my el cheapo cart from walmart for now. I'm pretty close to the bottom breaking and wheels falling off of that thing though lol. Anybody tried out that folding cart from wheeleez though? There selling it for $99 or they also have a few different ones on amazon for less than $100. Getting one to work on the pier isn't too hard, on the beach is a whole lot tougher though. Garb was saying he could build one a lot like the Fishnmate carts but I wonder how tough it would be to haul around. |

His is very nice. If he didn't tell you that he made it, it would pass off as production almost. His would be the same to get around as all of the premade ones. UNLESS he came up with a brilliant idea to make them collapsable! _________________ Master of the obvious... |

| Ditto, on the collapsable feature. Sure would be nice on a big cart. Theres a place on the expressway over here towards foley thats selling some modified versions of the fishing carts adding pop off wheeleez wheels and what not but they were $300-$400. Ouch, they also had one that was collapsable though. Kind of an industrial supply store. |

Alright
I should have the prototype cart done tonight or tomorrow morning.
It will be able to be broken down to about 4 or 6 inchs thick with the wheels off and 10" with the wheels on. _________________ Chad <---- Googan's don't fish in the rain.... |

| What I did was a lot like B Tuckers except I have an Igloo Cube with 3 holders (King, smaller, and bait). I used PVC pipe, nylon hardware not stainless, and siliconed in a little foam to keep the smaller bait rod tight. Put a larger holder in the center for king rod. It came out quite sturdy and works good for me, I guess no pics are really needed now. |

The only issue with PVC is the glue it is not designed to handle the torque from the weight and bouncing and will give way. I know this from experience. _________________ Chad <---- Googan's don't fish in the rain.... |

I dont have an issue with pvc , i didnt glue it and i make 4 or 5 trips down GSP at least every week ,as i said in my earlier post ,if you dont glue it then you can change it later if you want.Or screw it together at the joints if need be, Dont get discourged ADAPT OVERCOME _________________ "I may be ugly, but at least i ain't got no money" |

I was not knocking your cart or pvc.
I just made a true statement.
But know that you mentioned it if you look closely at your cart pictured you will see that it starting to sagg in the middle.
If you don't have it glued how do you keep it together. Just asking _________________ Chad <---- Googan's don't fish in the rain.... |

I hav'nt had any trouble keepin it together , if I do ill figure somethin out, but i have trouble tryin to get some peices back apart w/out glue. Its a work in progress , If you look at it from the top you'd see its not square either , it was an 8 hr. project. None of my peices are the same length, I tested on a buddy of mines vert ramp, even w/my 220lbs. in it (which i do not suggest tryin) no steerring, no brakes and no first -aid kit bummer. _________________ "I may be ugly, but at least i ain't got no money" |

Looks good. The only suggestion I have is weld a small piece of aluminum on the bottom of the rod holders so the butts of your rods won't drag on the deck. _________________ It's my duty to make fish pay for their mistakes. |
