i think it turned out decent for my first . turned out a little heavier than i like but its still not bad . i used a all aluminum seat and 8 guides 60-8 and an 8 tip. itll sling a 1/2 oz wait a country mile cant wait to put it in action.

The work is awesome!!! Super nice for anybodies first rod. I also just built a rod on that model blank and I love mine. I don't feel that mine is heavy at all, but I went much smaller on the guides. This reduced that weight and made it feel much stiffer than it would have with the bigger guides.
Well done. _________________ Master of the obvious... |

One second look it looks like you used light weight single foot guides further up... hmmmm. Maybe you are used to some really light stuff. My rod all summer had been a Roddy Rod that seems really heavy in comparison. _________________ Master of the obvious... |

thanks guys im still learning but think i got the basics down. yeah blam i went with 8 guides after readin some recommendations from ernie its supposed to spread the load more evenly and after putting it together i can see what he means. those single foot guides are those berkley guides that obie said he uses and yes they are very light. im thinkin it will be a fairly decent cobe rod it slings a 1/2 oz wait a mile cant even imagine how far a 2 or 3 oz jig would go. it seems like it has a good solid backbone even with the small tip.what do you think?
im goin for simple approach on the next one i like those skeleton seats and short grips |

I am thinking it could be ok for small live baits on a boat for cobia, but not on the pier. On the pier you need some thing that could drag them out of the pilings a bit if possible. _________________ Master of the obvious... |

| yeah i can see what you mean trying to horse a fat cobe outta the pillings with that tip would prob be a disaster, especially if thats where you hooked it and had to haul it out while its still fighting hard the tips to flimsy for that i think, would have to wear it down first before gettin it to the pier. im gonna try it though just cause it casts so well , if i can get one to eat 100yds from the pier itll prob be just fine.what blank would you consider to be a great cobe rod? looks like ill be building rods all winter to complete my arsenal right now i have more reels than rods. i need a good small rod for my 710 like a small king /spanish rod , i have 3 706 a 704 3 710s and a 712 all needing rods |

for a cobia rod
fiberglass: gator t90l, t90h, or t80h
graphite: pretty much any 1088 or 1089 i like the am tackle ones though.
oh btw that is a beautiful first rod! _________________ RIP TC you will always be remembered.

It was my pleasure and thanks for the generous offer. I'm thinking a clear anodized spool would look really nice on a green reel. _________________ Go Fishing you can't catch them sitting on the couch!!!

| I used the same blank for my king rod this year and I love it, it was a spanish killing machine. I had to go a little light on the drag for kings and just let them run but other than you will like it. I also was pitching small hardtail with it. |

| thanks everybody, under the diamond is white but i wasnt sure how much the blank would influence the color so i tried putting color perserver on every other row of where under wrap shows and it didnt come out like i wanted it but hey lesson learned and it still turned out decent. btw ernie i checked out your site and wow ... top notch, really nice work i hope to reach that level someday |

If you are going to use white as an under wrap some folks paint the blank white in the area under the white. _________________ Master of the obvious... |

| yeah that makes sense , the parts i put preserver on came out fine nice and white i was just experimenting thought it would be more of a greyish color but its more like a really washed out white. i know better now. im sure im not gonna get as involved with the thread as i did on the next one im sure you know its kinda time consuming . |
