first pier king. i lost somewhere along the lines of 18 this year so it was really starting to drive me crazy.

Dang..If Jace caught one they were thick!..  ..Just kidding..Glad you got one..I got to see it in person so its true!..If anyone is trying to catch tarpon they have been eating late in the afternoon from 6:30 to dark..

oh forgot to mention some guy hooked a tarpon got 2 jumps out of it before it broke off. i guess it was around 3. when i left at like 4:35 there had been 3 kings caught that were around and bigger than mine. i was told by sal there were some early in the morning to dont know details though.

Jace, congrats on your first king. I'm the guy who hooked the king on the west side that darted in front of you on its way out. We talked for a bit after mine was landed. It went 24# on the pier scale. Long and skinny.
Anyway, it was nice talking with you. Also, thanks to everyone who helped me land the fish. The advice helped a lot and kudos to the gaffer. There were a few obstacles (a shark and a couple of dolphins).
As far as my report, arrived at the pier a little after 6 am. Water was clear. Didn't see much on the bar until around 8 am. Tarpon started to come through sporadically, but no eaters. Then they seemed to stop running when the mackerel bite turned on. Got frustrated not seeing any fish right outside the draw, so moved closer to the T. Even threw a few casts off the west side of the T with no success. Moved back to my spot on the bar (west side of pier) and hooked the king a little after noon or so. I was done after that.
