706 spools

as some of you already know im in the process of reproducing spools for 706's they will fit both greenies and Z's . they're gonna hold more line and be stronger than the O.E. penn spools exactly how much more line capacity is yet to be determined but its lookin like 50yrds are so but like i said only an est at this point ill know for sure after i get a couple finished and actually load it up with new line. they will be available in gold, green, red, blue and silver (more polished aluminum than silver) anodized finish and they can be powder coated over the anodizing if desired with no prob. its gonna cost alot to get the tooling dyes to do these and im trying to get an idea of how fast i could get them sold to cover my outta pocket costs . the price will be 55 -60 bucks each( with free shipping more than likely depending on where) also will have 1yr warranty.
if i have enough orders it will speed things up, nothing official just trying to get an idea of how many would want one as soon as there done. with the holidays near i dont wanna have a bunch of money tied up in spools
im only doin 25 to start so let me know if your interested.
kingv1000

i dont know why that off topic emo showed up prob my butter fingers ...sorry
stvtackett

i'll take the first 2. then a couple of more later if these 1st ones work o.k. as far as field testing, i would be out of the running. i would ask that if do allow anyone to test the spools contact dredgfish. he killed 2 spools this summer, there is no better person for the job...
kingv1000

sounds like hes rough on the gear or something . yeah i figured you would prob be interested steve thats why i checked into powder coating over the anodizing and my guys say there shouldnt be any prob with doin that so youll still be able to do your customizing thing. i must say though the stuff ive already had done by this company was top notch the colors came out deep and rich i was impressed . ok cool so 23 to go......
stvtackett

you will have a dozen sold before you get to the florabama.
Kingfshr

I'll take one to check out. More if they are as good as they sound.
Dredgfish

Field tester? Im your huckleberry I like to do the run and wrap
Tiderider

You already know that I'll buy one as well.  Can't wait to see the finished product.  Thanks for stepping up.
kingv1000

well alrighty then guess that settles it im sure it wont take long to get them sold. yeah ill send a couple out to be tested so no worries there and obie we already discussed what your getting by the way thanks again for the info so far the rod is coming out awesome slow but im learning as i go and takin my time its paying off though ill post pics soon as its finished.
anybody else interested in the spools let me know oh and if you guys know what colors your wanting let me know so ill be sure to have what you want
blaminack

I would mention this on the Stripers Online Forum as well as the Pier And Surf forum to guage interest. They are all 706 fans and I am sure there would be a quick market if you bring quality.
the original pier pest

Oh I can torture test them for you. Also Dredge is a good candidate I was there for the incident. Lets just say it go pop.
kingv1000

hey FYI scotts has 706 main gears available at the moment 1 per customer at 35 bones including shipping.
the original pier pest

One thing you might want to take into account that both myself and dredge have encountered is that the spools from the z series will not fit the greenie mainshaft and vis versa. Others say that they are not having the same problem but I have and It is a damn pain in the ass.
kingv1000

oh really , what seems to be the diff ?

can not sell these on striper online, can not sell anything you make or produce for resale. can say made them and didn't need them. but can only say that once. they have a new section for commercial but you must crack the code of the clique. hell lets see how your first ones are, then word of mouth gets em sold..

never heard this before. how will it not fit. black or gold. both of my powder coated reels have black spools, this so i could have extra greenies for problems that arise. i see numerous people that have green on gold and gold on green.
inshorefisherman

you should make these good spools for 302's  i  think there would be a bigger market for those
stvtackett

someone is already making 302 spools i think and you can find nos from time to time. used ones a very abundant. and really panhandle fishers are the majority of users. you can not find 706 spools consistently, and if you do they are pricey. i do not see the demand for 302 spools being comparable to 706...

i hope to eventually develop my own reel based off the spinfishers , its to early in the game to be trying to reproduce parts for many diff reels im stickin with what i know and thats penn. this whole thing started when i needed a spool for a 706 beater that i got and noticed several other folks in my same situation. as far as selling them im sticking with us panhandle guys first and if people from other regions hear about or stumble upon them then fine but honestly its really for us to continue using and enjoying these classic built like a tank reels that we all like so much. to me theres not a sweeter sound than a 706 even with a worn out roller.
As far as the spools not interchanging ill have to check into that , all my greenies and z's interchange so far even the 710 plastic spool works on my 710z and vice versa. I have seen people get the upper and lower slotted drag washers out of alignment with eachother and appear to not fit or the washers themselves are damaged and causing problems but so far ive had no prob.
were having a cnc mill installed today to go along with our cnc lathe so aluminum side plates are prob in the near future but first things first so spools it is .
seminole73

Wow! I'd be interested definitely in the side plates.  Also interested in a spool too - most likely the silver if it does truly come out looking like polished aluminum (think that would look cool).

some oneshould try and do rotor cups, but then again it would be difficult to have them balanced and what not.
outlawsr <0)))>{

I dont know it seems to me rotor cups would be rather easy im looking at about 8 706 rotor cups here dont look like they would be difficult  would have to use a  bolt on type  roller
Tiderider

Yeah if you ever do rotor cups put me down for 5.
stvtackett

i'd be in for a few also, then make my own 706's and 707's.
the original pier pest

I believe the hardest part would be balancing the assembly which shouldn't be too hard. heck if it is manufactured correctly you could use an old school tire balancing machine.
kingv1000

actually, balancing would be determined before machining and wouldnt be that difficult but 706s arent perfectly balanced anyways. the design of the roller and and tab where roller attaches makes it almost impossible to compensate for with it being on top and the outer most point of cup.i dont think getting it balanced as good as factory would be a prob. i do plan on making some cups and side plates sometime this winter. they will come without roller though but i think they are still available unless i come up with my own roller. one thing at a time though ...spools first
spools should be going to anodizer this week though had to wait till we got our mill up and running before we could finish batch of bike parts that spools are going to anodizer with to make it cheaper.
as far as purple and any colors other than gold, black and natural aluminum finish go it costs 60 bones to add a color plus each part done in that color so im only doing the colors we are already having done to our bike parts which is the 3 colors i mentioned above.
jaceboat

make it to where a mitchell roller fits the rotor, please

or create a wider roller for them.
vettman74

706 spools

Have any left of the first run? I'm up to upgrading one of my 706's.

Let me know.
Thanks
T-wagon

This is a great idea!  Maybe you could package an upgrade kit someday, so I could turn my 705 greenies into 707s.
Rick

put me down for a Natural finish spool please.
kingv1000

should be enough to go around . ill take orders as soon as they are done  and ready to ship.dont worry pff guys have first pick so shouldnt be a prob
cig slinger

i would get a cup but i have other financial issuses at this time but i will buy the cups if the are made
cig slinger

the mitchell roller is also a good idea but i would like to find out where i can get so oe roller bearings because i only have one now

??? pff sucks
kingv1000

you know what i meant Mr tackett.....

I dont know if you all have ever installed hunter type ceiling fan but inside the box comes a balance Kit it is simply a clothes pin and you simply turn on the unit and move the pin until the wobble disappears you can use this technique in the rotor cups also then pour the weight(lead) in the correct grove in the bottom of the rotor cup

very true
DevnDeb

Spools would be AWSOME...have been dying to get another one so I can spool up braid for the winter East Jetty Grouper bite...then switch spools for kings, etc...Bert made me a spool for my 302...damn thing holds almsot as much line as a 706 and handled tarpon without blowing up...and I put some REAL pressure on it just to see...and it didn't blow up!!! One piece spools are the way to go!!!
