AMBERJACK CLOSINGJust recieved this email frim Sen Gaetz. Our federal government taking over everything.
Statement of Senator Don Gaetz
Opposing National Marine Fisheries Service
Sudden Closing of Amberjack Season
3 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009
Today, without warning and with apparent disregard for the impact on Northwest Florida’s economy, the National Marine Fisheries Service suddenly announced that it was closing the amberjack season. This decision combines too much authority with too little science.
I strongly oppose this arbitrary decision and have asked the NMFS to reconsider and recall their announcement. No valid and reliable scientific evidence has been presented that would justify this action.
NMFS is a federal agency outside of the jurisdiction of the State of Florida. Therefore I am appealing to our two US senators, George LeMieux and Bill Nelson, and Congressmen Allan Boyd and Jeff Miller to join me in a request for reconsideration.
It is a measure of the insensitivity of NMFS that the agency would take this last minute action while the Destin Fishing Rodeo still has a week to go. Destin is hosting fishermen who have come here from throughout the country. The amberjack fishery is important to visitors who spend millions of dollars a year supporting our coastal economy. Though we will feel the sting here, this draconian action affects communities along our entire Gulf coast.
It is ironic that a federal government handing out billions of “stimulus dollars” with one hand is, with the other, hurting the entrepreneurs, the small businesspeople who own, operate and work on fishing boats in our area. For many of our captains and mates trying to hang onto their livelihood, decisions like that made today by NMFS are an anchor rope around their throats.
Unfortunately, it appears we will see a continual attack on our sport fishing industry by federal regulators. Red snapper, grouper and other fisheries have already been victims of NMFS. Therefore, in my capacity as Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Florida’s Economy, I have today requested Workforce Florida to develop and offer dislocated worker and training services to Northwest Florida fishermen who may have no choice but to seek other ways to earn a living.

AMBERJACK CLOSINGHuh Did I miss something? Do I need to put my glasses on to read between lines ? The usual SHOCK and OUTRAGE from an elected official about another orchestrated taking of our sporting rights only to offer worker and training services so you can develop a NEW career/employment choice to compensate(did you happen to notice the term DISLOCATED WORKER)for their actions. It seems the good senator has already given up the fight and is more concerned about the Destin Fishing Rodeo(which, by the way, I happen to enjoy and support) and how it will be affected.

Ya think? It's about money, all about money. Whether it's for the condo owners to make sure they get their check, or if it's for the commerical fishing industry, they are gonna get paid.

You see his signature on the order closing the fishery? Nope.
Look at it this way, liberals see guns as far more of a priority than fishing and if this whole "change" thing you're worried about is gonna happen, the guns will go first. That hasn't happened yet.
NMFS is in the pocket of special interests representing commercial fishing. If this administration is so anti-business/socialist, and to play along with your idea, why didn't they close the amberjack fishery to the commercial fleet?
You have to follow the money trail on this one.

The commercial guys have deep pocket lobbyists.
Be sure to wear your,"I voted for Obama" t-shirt to the docks.
I gotta go work now to provide for those that choose not provide for themselves.

National Marine Fisheries Service is also a federal government run agency.
Connect the dots.

Because small business can't afford the lobbyists that the bigger businesses can. You can try to blame the current administration all you want, but the blame is misplaced. There is no liberal idealism in play here. Red snapper, grouper and now amberjack, it's all about one thing and one thing only.
Money.

So by your logic, we need to place the blame for the snapper and grouper closures on Bush then?
|
hijacker3

Can't blame us, we didnt vote for him. I couldnt if i had wanted to. Its gonna feel like a roll of half dollars though.

Blame Bush. Atta boy.

If we're going with the logic Howard is using, then yes.
So who did y'all blame for the snapper and grouper closures or did Obama also find a way to warp the space/time continum and go back in time to take the grouper and snapper away from us?

I gotta give ya credit, you will carry that water, right off a cliff for Obama.Wait till cap and trade, you think your power bill is high now?

Nope, just pointing out the flaws in the argument and putting blame where it is due. This quota was set in 2008.

IRVINE, Calif. USA – October 5, 2009 – A recently published administration document outlines a structure that could result in closures of sport fishing in salt and freshwater areas across America. The White House created an Interagency Oceans Policy Task Force in June and gave them only 90 days to develop a comprehensive federal policy for all U.S. coastal, ocean and Great Lakes waters. Under the guise of ‘protecting’ these areas, the current second phase of the Task Force direction is to develop zoning which may permanently close vast areas of fishing waters nationwide. This is to be completed by December 9, 2009.
Dave Pfeiffer, President of Shimano American Corporation explained, “In spite of extensive submissions from the recreational fishing community to the Task Force in person and in writing, they failed to include any mention of the over one million jobs or the 6o million anglers which may be affected by the new policies coast to coast. Input from the environmental groups who want to put us off the water was adopted into the report verbatim – the key points we submitted as an industry were ignored.”
Guess who's signature Manny?

That's the view of the guy at Shimano and we've discussed that one before, a separate argument from the one at hand though.
