building a mack stick

im building a 8 foot gator 596. im putting a 406 on it and i want to know what size guides i should use. thanks

lets just say...go to www.mudhole.com ..then find ur way around there till u find the guid spacing chart...or just call ernie!

for a 406 i would go with a 60 or 50 starting off. then just choke it down from there. maybe something like 60, 40, 30, 22, 14 (depending on brand, sizes might have to vary a little)

those 596 are nice mack rods

I'd put 5 guides + the tip.
Have your a rod building pro suggest guide size.
Bent Rod

Look at the Pacific Bay wire guides model XBSG Boat Guides.
Start with size 16, 25, 40, 60 & 70. The spacing should be, starting from the tip in inches, 7, 8, 10, 12 & 14.  After measuring that out measure from the tip to the front real seat and divide that by 2/3. Your last guide (size 70) should be with 1 inch of that measurement.
