Friday 10/23/09Water was silty on the end and getting cleaner on the beach. Lots of people out today. And for good reason. Tons of Spanish caught. Many in the 5# range. Sonny bumped Philip off the Destin rodeo pier division with a 6.6 Spanish. Several dozen Kings too in the 8 - 12# range. There was some movement on the pier King tournament leader board today. Not sure details of that but Thomas said his 16.8 fish was bumped down to 5th. Lionel still has 1st with his 20.4. Plenty of Sharks around and a few bull Reds as well. Bait was LY's and Hardtails and the wind blew about 10mph from the SW.

Catching the SpanishI had a great day out there Friday. I'm no expert fisherman but had fun trying. The wind was so strong I couldn't keep a bait fish in the water. So, I used a jig head with mono leader and stuck the bait fish through the eyes. This worked great, esp when the Spanish were on the bottom. Using mono took got rid of metal leader distraction, but I lost about every other fish because my line got cut. I decided hooking 5 Spanish and loosing 5 was better than hooking 2 and landing 2. Of course, the PRO's hooked 10 and landed 10. Some day ...
Oh, the other problem with the jig was that it was real attractive to the Red Bulls near the bottom - I hooked up with them five times, and got three of them to the pier before I snapped the line.
It was definitely a good day of fishing. I appreciate the PRO's there who helped me out. Thank you!
Score end of the day - 11 Spanish over the railing and 3 36" plus Red Bulls up to the pier (who were sent back to make more babies!).
