hey guys im thinkin bout getting my GED and then enrolling in PJC. jus wondering if anybody on here has gotten there GED and what u think bout it.

I have one. I got it after 2 years in college when they told me I needed it for financial aid. Honestly, if you have college under your belt, not too many people care what highschool you went to.

FYI, I had a 2.5 GPA in highschool and a 3.5 in college.

aight thanks. im really considering doin it cause i can get grants and i have funds left by my grandma to enroll in PJC and move on with my life.

im not doin as well in school as i would like but its mostly like B.S. like minor homework and stuff. i have a similar GPA to what u did

Just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. Highschool is not for everyone. Once I got to college fulltime, I felt more at home.

But also know that College is supposed to be more demanding and believe me, the Professors could care less whether you pass or fail. (In general). I would suggest taking an "online" college class that would apply toward what you have in mind while you decide. That way you can get an idea of what it would be like and if that is what you want to commit to. Are you a senior now? If so how many credits are you lacking from graduating? Why not switch over to a VoTech school for part of the day to ease some of the home work garbage?

Not necessarily Calvin. If he is doing it to start college early, that's fine. If he's doing it to spend more time on the pier, that's not good.

My wife who is in the student loan business says that if you quit high school there is a 66% higher likelihood that you would quit college. In my mind if you only have a short ways to go then the accomplishment of finishing will be a better foundation to build upon. I don't know you Jace, but I would advise against going this route UNLESS you had a ridiculas IQ and the reason for poor grades was mental boredom and lack of challenge. College is nothing but homework. And it IS NOT WORK AT YOUR OWN PACE!

you better carry your ass to school and get your education, if trade school is your thing than that is o.k. but you better think long and hard about what kind of life you want to live. careers are gone for the most part for the non skilled. i have 105 employees most of who did not gt thier education. and they work thier ass off, most on the night shift to make a reasonable wage. they would be hard pressed to raise a family. find a trade and try to be the best at what you do.

if i get my GED then i will get a diploma also im pretty confident that i can keep up with the work in college because i have a friend he goes to PJC and i help him and my older sister do there work all the time. also only taking classes 2 to 3 days a week i will have more time to work on homework. also im taking several classes taught by teachers who work at PJC and im doin better in those classes then my regular classes.

Stay in school Jace. I don't know how long you have until you graduate High School. I'm assuming you're a junior. One of my sons graduated last year after not doing too great through his junior year. He was feeling about like you do. I told him there are really two things I, as a general foreman in construction remember about a person who works for me. The first impression and the last impression, the last being the most important. It's basically the same in High school. Forget about what has happened and do the BEST you can possibly do in the time you have left. Now he's going to college with a fully paid two year scholarship in the arts. If you aren't applying yourself in high school, I'd bet you won't do it in college. No one is going to push you to do your work in college because they don't care whether you pass or not. Think about it long and hard before you make this decision.

Jace. don't even think about dropping out. Getting a GED is not looked at the same way as a diploma and graduating. You are only 16 and not ready to face the decisions you will need to make in college. I graduated from High School, went to college for 2 1/2 years on a track scholarship, got fed up worked for a while , then went into the Navy .Later, they sent me back to get my BA.I retired from the Navy after 23 years, then went back on the GI bill and got a Masters degree in Business.I have had hundreds of persons working for me and overall there is a big difference in those that graduated than those that did not.Its going to be even more important in the future to be educated unless you want to flip burgers or dig ditches!!

If your not in 12'th grade & not going to graduate this year, Dont do it. Finish It! There are some reasons to get a Ged but not because your not doing your homework etc.

Stay in school and develop some study habits now. Set goals for your grades and put in the effort. If you think college will be easier than high school you are mistaken. You also need to figure out what you plan to study and tailor your high school class selection to prepare you for what you will be studying. A mismatch can hurt you. And if a 4 year degree is what you are looking to earn, remember JC is an intermediate step. I think a trip to your guidance counselor is in order to assist you in assessing where you are, where you want to go, and what the steps are in between. That's what they are paid to do. You are at a crossroad, go for it while you can. Best of luck.

STAY IN SCHOOL!!! Should things go south for you in college, there's not alot to fall back on unless you have a skill. Most, if not all, military branches now won't even take a GED VS. a HS Diploma...so that's another avenue that is closed to you. I know that you have probably heard it from your parents...but REALLLLY the decisions you make now set the foundations for the rest of your life! Hell, for my security clerance they went all the way back to Jr. High...If you think college isn't alot of homework, you are kidding yourself and setting yourself up!!! I had 2-3 hours EVERY night...and like a poster ahead of me said..."College profs don't care if you pass or fail"...for the most part, that is true...YOU are expected in class every day along with the assignments they give you...if you aren't there, they aren't going to call home or try to find you...it's UP TO YOU for EVEYTHING...
My 2 cents...not busting on ya...just just don't want to see you make a bad decision...

My 2 cents is simple.......if you can't finish high school then what makes you think you're ready for college.

I second obie's comment. I am currently attending classes at AUM in montgomery. Just because it is a community college dosen't make it any easier than some of the larger more well known colleges. I had a friend transfer from Alabama to AUM and he made worse grades there. Just stick with completing high school.

Things may feel tough now, but it'll look like a cakewalk when you look back at it and I guarantee you'll miss out on some of the better parts of high school like walking across the stage in front of your family to get your diploma. I got my diploma but did it late. I went back and got it after pretty much giving up. Your going to get good and bad teachers, get stuck at times but the extra work will be worth it. Do the homework, no matter how tedious and dumb, take a girl to prom, go to the homecoming game, and go take that diploma from them at the end of your senior year. You really don't get a do over, and you don't forget it either. Either way you'll have to change to be successful, and you will end up doing the work anyways, so enjoy it while you don't HAVE to work. Life is not fair, but that doesn't mean you can give up either. Time waits for no one.

Secret of College is very simple.

GO TO CLASS, PAY ATTENTION and TAKE NOTES. Know which Professors teach which classes and do not sign up with the idiot professors that think their class is God's gift to the Educational system.

You will work your butt off for a C if you are lucky.
