Home made 10/0 jighooks

Here's my solution to using 3407 mustads for jig hooks. I have plenty 8/0 jighooks so I cut the eye's off a few about 3/4" from the bend and wired them to the bigger hooks. I had a hook break after heating and bending it even after getting it red hot. It broke about an inch back from where I heated it. Maybe I did it wrong but I don't want one to break if I stick it in a ling.

That looks good, but why didn't you just use eyelets?

i have used 3407 9/0 mustads and snap the brass eyelets on with no problems whatsoever. the brass eyes also give you the felxibility to put the point right up under the eye by setting the hook forward and the brass eye back in the mold, or for some people that like more shank exposed and the point being farther back, you can simply slide the hook back in the mold.
for my personal jigs, i prefer the old short shank 9/0 mustad jig hooks. to my knowledge they are no longer made and havent been made in years. luckily i have about 50 left and i doubt ill lse that many in my lifetime.
back to your original pictures and idea. good job! quite intuitive and seems like it will work with no problem. no just pour, paint, tie, and CATCH!

Well, I didn't have any eyelets and since I'm bored to tears watching it sleet and snow outside, I had to do something! Cabin fever is a bitch! Just for future though, what size eyelets do y'all use? By the way, they poured out nice. I'm knocking off a few rough edges and into the powder they go.

jigslinger those look like they will work great. The ring size you want to use if you buy the brass its a #2 they usually come a 100 to the pk.
