King Rig Question.

The rigs I have all have a single nose hook ahead of the treble. Is that ok or necessary.

I plan on making some of my own from the instructions below and wanted to use 27 lb and 40 lb but it seems 40lb gets bit through easier than 27lb. Why that is true I have no clue.

I guess I could go to 60lb but I don't want to cost myself some bites from line visibility.

Is 7 wire better than single wire or is it kind of like Chevy or Ford.

Thanks
Jigslinger

The theory is that the smaller 27 lb. wire fits in between their teeth where it can't be bitten as easily. The 60 lb is stout enough to handle the bite better.

you can use 27 but i would feel sick if a 30 or 40 lber ate me and he bit threw my wire
i have seen a few bite threw 60 but it usally dosent happen
and always remeber friends dont let friends fish with 40

The trick to using 27lb wire is play the fish all the way out before attempting to gaff the fish.  The wire usually does fine unless you put too much pressure on the fish.  They just plain bite thru 40lb wire.  60lb wire should be fine unless you are fishing in very clear water, even then some fish just don't seem to mind while others wouldn't bite a mono leader.

obie is right on about that trick. found out the hard way. i had a bluefish bite through 40 so never again will i use it. i got 9 fish to eat with 60 the other day so unless its really clear you should be fine.

Thanks Guys and I really wanted to use 60 anyway.

I plan on making them with sevenstrand 60lb and without the nose hook.

Anything I'm missing

That'll work.
