King Rod Eye questionI have an old eagle claw rod that needs a couple new eyes and am thinking about re-wrapping the whole thing with new eyes. It's an 8-1/2 footer and am looking for suggestions. How many eyes and sizes. I'll be putting either a 402 or a 704 on it.

Jig,
I've been making and rebuilding rods for many years, and I
would say an 8 1/2 rod should have six guides plus the tip.
I would use a 60MM butt guide and then a 40, 30, 20, 16, and
12 on the tip section. I have started using a ceramic ringed tip
top because I fish with Power Pro, and I worry about the line
cutting a groove in an all metal tip. Good Luck!

Thanks Skipper, I appreciate the info. I use powerpro too so I'll take your advice on the tip.
Thanks again.

Mac,
I know for certrain that PP can wear a groove in
a stainless steel tip! Been there, done that, got

Hey skipper, I'm looking at Pacific Bay guides. What do you think?
Do you know of a better brand?

Hi Jig,
Pac Bay doesn't make small guides with center braces,
which I think makes a rod look odd. American Tackle
(the new ones) or Perfection have braces on all their
guides. Go to MudHole.com and order their free catalog.
Not the best prices in the world, but they do have a good
selection and the front of the catalog has all the basics you
need on rod building!

Yeah, I noticed that. Thanks again. I'll check it out.
