what is a good gator blank for a king rod for the Pensacola beach pier?
plus what is a good reel?
Freespool

706 is a good reel or a Van Staal if you want to go all out. A t90L is a good blank
fishhead0429

15 lb class a gator596 with a mitchell 306 or 406 size reel. heavier end like 20lb class a t90l

well i think the word you are trying to spell is actually shatter.
and rainshadow's blank do perform well within their specs. pay attention when a rod manufacturer states that the rod is built for 15-30lb line and 1-3 oz weight. when you go over that weight, and line rating, youre asking for trouble. i know of plenty of rods that have broken, NOT because of the lack of qualityi n the rod, but because the owner is using the rod outside its specified suggested range of operation. its no wonder a 30lb class rod breaks when 65lb power pro and a 4 oz jig is heaved from it. the reason glass rods handle it alright is because they are able to have a double bend, where graphite rods need to have only one parabolic bend. this means that it is simply a bad idea to "whip" a cast. the rod needs a chance to come back, pause and reload the other direction. when owners make a whippy cast, they are trying to force the lower end of the rod in a forward bend while the tip section of the rod hasnt recovered and is still bending backwards.
sorry to get so wordy, i just wanted to defend rainshadow. they dont design rods for brute durability, they are trying to build than lightest possible rod in certain specs. and when used properly in that range, they perform excellently. sure they could beef up the material to make the rod more durable, but then it takes away from the comfort and light weight feel. so, you have to understand buying graphite is for lightweight sensative performence.

I have a 306 without a manual or crosswind cam that I would turn loose for $35 or offer me something in trade.

U  know ur one smart person...and i dont blame u for defending rainshadow blanks cause if someone made fun of gator i would defnd them!!!! ...cause im a kid in a house with a crazy and wild older brother and dad that dont give a rats ass about my fishing stuff!!!  :cussing: and i just need a rod that will stand up to my crazzy house

yeah, if your rods are going to see some cieling fans, car windows, feet, or other rough conterparts, gator is certainly the way to go. they can take a lickin for sure.

Next best thing to an Ugly Stick blank in terms of taking abuse.  The Gator blanks mentioned will definitely have better action though. Graphite rods will have even a better action but their durability is definitely lacking.

Fishing rods like everything in life are a compromise.  Everyone should weigh their own personal constraints when making a decision on anything and don't expect their choice to perform beyond its limitations.
