I use a uni to uni with no problems at all. Easy to tie and runs through the guides smoothly.

use uni to uni
an albright when tied has a large profile

Double up the braid with a triple overhand then tie with a uni-uni. Braid will cut through mono on an Albright.

That's interesting. I've never had the braid cut through mono with an albright knot and I use that all the time. The albright is the best knot for lines that are largely dissimilar in diameter. For lines that are closer to the same diameter, the uni to uni works great.

Like Manny said, double up the braid then tie a uni to uni knot. Similar to this with the exception of the doubled braid:

Hey Justin that main site that your video came from is AWESOME and could merit a link!

Here's a link to knots which Power Pro recommends.
http://powerpro.com/publish/conte...company/using_powerpro/knots.html
I would lean toward using the Albright knot, since it will be a lower profile knot and from what I have read is a better connector for this splice. The uni to uni is a good knot also and is a lot easier to tie correctly. Regardless of which of these two knots I used I would definitely double the braid and use a 30-40 wind Bimini twist on the braid to double it.

How would doubling the braid with a surgeon's end loop wrapped, say 8-12 times compare with a Bimini twist?
I'm not sure I could do a fair test, as my Bimini twists tend to suck.

I don't know anything about a surgeon's knot never used it. I won't offer an opinion on something I don't use, but I will say that the best possible knot to use is one that you are comfortable in tying and have practiced enough to tie it correctly.

A spider hitch is a decent alternative to a Bimini I think.

This works great for me. Never had it fail.
The modified albright also known as alberto's knot
This is what Alberto Knie (Crazy alberto) wrote about that knot
"Since the inception of the super lines (about 10 years ago)… there was no real mono to braid knots. And those common knots everyone recommended just didn’t cut it! Because we are in the high-tech age and introducing a new material to the equation (braid with special coatings / Fluorocarbon leaders / non stretch fibers), I actually tried many recommended knots (with frustrations) … so I came up with this knot for myself and I’ve been using ever since. I have a few friends (& some world record friends) who loves it and will not go back. In fact, it is being well received through out (from Mexico / Costa Rica / Florida and Canada) and I am glad everyone is enjoying it.
The key to my knot is simple… Make sure everything is "snug and tight". Once it is done correctly… You should not have any problems! Although I noticed that there are new lines coming out with added “slippery” coatings (to allow more distance) it may be a good idea to “dab” it with crazy glue. Personally, I tie straight without it… but if it adds confidence… do it."

thats exactly the knot i do, just thought it was the same as the albright.

Maybe a better way to describe the knot I use to double braid is an empty uni knot. Just double the line and make a uni in the doubled line without threading the line through anything. The knot just tightens down, leaving a doubled line as long as you choose. Use twice as many turns as you would with mono. You could put a lock in it using the tag end, just like a bimini.

I am familiar with the knot you use, I just never use it. I'll tie a length of 20 lb. braid with a BT on one end and a surgeons loop on the other and see which gives first. I'll also tie a spider hitch to go up against the winner. If the spider hitch proves to be the weaker knot in the second test, there will be a loser's bracket to determine second place. I'll post the results later.

The results are in. The Bimini twist proved to be the strongest of the three in a head to head to head test. The spider hitch took second place, with the surgeons loop bringing up the rear. The spider hitch was the easiest of the three for me to tie, though the surgeons loop wasn't too much more difficult. The BT was a royal pain to tie since these were my first attempts ever with braid. A lot of the difficulty I had was seeing that the line wrapped up on the twists properly. A BT with mono is so much easier to tie, but still more difficult than the other two with braid even if you are experienced in tying this knot.
So my final recommendation would be if you are proficient and take the time to make certain the knot is laid down correctly use the BT. If there is any doubt with regard to tying the BT and the braid is of a much greater breaking strength than the mono a spider hitch should suffice.

Thanks for the test. It makes sense. There must be a reason people have long been willing to go to the trouble to tie a BT.

well the day i learned the bt i was tying 15+ loops in it with ease the only hard part i found was getting the tag to wrap back over the original twist
