For a 9' rod, I use a 60mm or 70mm guide for the first one, then a 50mm, 40mm, 30mm,
20mm, 12mm and a tip with a 10mm ring. Seems to work out okay for me that way.

theres a few different setups i like.
composite set - 60,50wire then 30,20,12 insert
all wire set - 75,50,30,20,14 or 75,60,40,24,16 it can also depend on what brand gides you choose. mildrums sit higher off the rod. perfections are a lower profile guide.
my best advice is grab a rod that already has a guide setup that you like. then match the rings of your mildrums as best you can. then take a blank and tape them on there (placement doesnt have to be exact, but try to get it close) and see how you like the looks of it. there is a whole lot of debate between traditional big ring guides vs the fuji concept vs other ideas.... but honestly, i think your blank and line selection affects casting WAY more than guide selection and placement does.

What size reel are you putting on the rod also affects the guide size.A 706z,feel free to use the 70 A penn 8500 try a 60 Line slap will affect your distance.
