Looking for rod/reel combo onlilne somewhere..Hi,
I am coming down in October to fish for the month and I don't think it would be wise to use my zebco traditional reel. I would like to know of a suggestion of one that is around $100 bucks or so that would do the trick. I don't care to have something great, just something that would get the job done. I seen on basspro shop of a penn spinmaster I think 406? for around $150.00 had great reviews, but thats a little to much. Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Feel free to PM me or just post below.
Thank You

If anyone could look at this one and the specs and tell me if it looks okay.

Too small for kings but perfect for reds, flounder, mangrove snapper and spanish macks. This is a better bet for you:

What is so special about these 706 reels and all of that? It seems like a waste of money to me. I just buy a normal spinning reel, a pretty bif one to so it can hold some line.

Apparrentley you have never fished with one before. I have 4 of them and never leave home without them. They are my work horse and I know I can always rely on them to work.

The manual pickup is useful when working a bait from the pier for a king. Anywhere else, it's not that great.

They're great from a pier, I just can't think of too many other useful applications for them. Then again, they are fun to collect and restore but that's another expensive hobby I don't need.

I have caught many fish from a boat with mine. They work great for sight casting and also free lining a bait out.

at present i only pier fish and they are great for that. when i lived at the beach and owned a boat i fished them also as i don't care for bottom or offshore fishing. alot of boats use them for fly rods for experinced fishers. east coast fishers still use them for surf fishing if they have not upgraded to vs's. with that being said they are useful in more applications than one would think, if they were not they would be plentiful and cheap. collectors are not driving the price up. i don't consider myself a collector, all my reels have been fished this year except the z's.

706's are also great for ling fishing and once you get used to them you will never want anything else.. It is all I use when fishing for kings or ling, from a boat or pier...

Steve has a lot more 706s than me and I have no pictures of my Zs at all yet but here are some of my greenies. I like my Penns.

If it swims in saltwater a 706 can catch it. BTW I have 8 myself.

Believe it or not some are actually made that way. I am keeping them original.

But steve it has a bail on it.

if he has to ask us where to find an inexpensive combo, he needs a bail.

LOL true! But really oddly enough, a manual seems so easy to me now that I use one, I wish that I had bought some of those stupid looking Surf Casting reels back in the day.
