So I was Snap Blackie fishing yesterday near Bob Sikes when I spot something black moving towards me from about 35 yards away..I grab my mullet net and when I look up it was a manatee..I have a picture but its on the phone..If you see me and want to see it ask me..I called Corey and Victor asked them if I should report it..Tyler and Chickenbone said they saw one in Panama a few days ago..

Ive gotten some PMs and stuff on the other forum telling me im a dumbass and ignorant..That I should delete the thread about seeing a manatee..If yall fill this way be sure to let me know..
I bet you're glad you didn't throw that net over him.
Rick
Grilled Manatee tastes great...you should have snagged him and put him on the grill!

Why would they tell you to delete the thread? Do they not know our area has several manatee? We see them out on the piers regularly in the spring and fall.
Jigslinger
Its a boater thing. They don't want "manatee zones"
Dow
Personally I think it is fun to launch a speed bump from time to time. Isn't that all a manatee is? :P

Because Pensacola Fishing Forum is predominantly a boaters forum. Based on what has happened to south Florida over the years with no wake zones being added primarily because of Manatee sightings, no one up here wants the same thing to happen. Thats why everyone on PFF always says a bunch of crap like "You didn't see a Manatee. That was a shark. Or any other species except a Manatee".
Even though I boat in a lot of our inshore areas, I still could care less about wake zones being added or any of the whiny asses on PFF. Report all the Manatee sightings! Make up fake sightings and report those too. Get the wake zones added and piss all them PFF people off. To hell with them!
Oh look, here's a big Redfish. Or maybe it's a Mako?
Dow
I do believe that is the elusive Mermaid, Calvin. Or if you are a boater I guess it could be a Siren.
Dylan
Thanks guys...It was deleted off of the PFF Site..By Chris the one who created it..He sent me a PM saying that there are no Manatee here and if there were wed have to go 5 knots..WOW

Well put

The guy on the PFF is a moron. If he dosen't think there are manatee's here then I would hate to fish with that guy. He would probably think schooling redfish were just mullet.

Well we do have manatee's in our area, it's not a secret. In places down south you can find them in concentrated numbers and thus the manatee protected speed zones. We don't really have that issue up here as they are not nearly as concentrated. If our area ever becomes heavily populated with manatee then I would hope we would protect them as well. They really are sweet beasts.
Rick
Hey Obie, Flipper use to be a sweet beast as well.

I have seen lots of them here in the past. About a year before old wooden pier destroyed, I saw a bull, cow and calf all togather going west. Also saw some on Pickens pier later. If you want to see dozens, go to the Blue Springs arrea, north of Deland on the St Johns river in the winter. They help keep lot of hyacents from clogging up the rivers. Beautiful beast!

I have seen over 10 different manatee sightings of the old Dan Russell myself, in fact I saw one back in the spring at Inlet Beach while wading sight fishing pomps. No doubt about it there are manatees in our waters.

hey kid cobia, remember the glass episode when we saw the manatee swim under the navy base bridge? i think Leah was with you.
