if you are talking about a bait ribbon you will have to drive to alabama to find one. they are not legal in florida.

go to a net building or net repair shop and get a few different size mesh ,tie a swivle to one end of the red ribbon then tie the ribbon in a half hitch at the top of the net then weave it straight down throught the net (you can use as log of a piece of net as you want about 6 in. wide) when you get to the bottom pull the net snug then tie another half hitch when the net is snug leave enough ribbon to tie a weight on probally 2 ounces ,this will you get you started

That is IF YOU ARE IN ALABAMA. Us people over in Florida are apparently abusing the Alewives in horrible ways using the dastardly contraptions of death.

Rumor has it that we didn't get bathrooms on the new pier in PCB because we are being punished for the use of ribbon rigs.

i have not seen them in pensacola, not to say they are not being used. however i got in a debate on new old forum about me using a ribbon on oip. so after deciding i was not going to use a ribbon when i arrived there was not a cig to be caught. ly's could not be caught on gold hooks or sabikis. to top it off if i saw 1 i saw 20 ribbons being used by regulars but mostly the younger crowd however saw a couple of the veterans using ribbons. so like every other rule or law it is a bit disregarded.

They are illegal to sell in florida, so no bait stores can carry them.. We make our own and have never had word said to me from the FWC..

I was told by a FWC officer that I was talking to that the LY ribbons WERE NOT supposed to be in the gill net ban...but the legal eagles agreed that if they were to go back and get the law ammended that the gill netters would find a way around the law to thier advantage...I kinda agree with them about the gill nets...they are NOT illegal to possess...just to use...sooooo...BE SMART when you use one...the FWC guys aren't all that bad...if they don't SEE you using it...then you don't put them into the position of having to enforce a STUPID law...and trust me...from my conversation with him...he DIDN'T want to enforce it, but would IF you are seen using one.

Yep, that's it. If they see you using it, you are busted. Stupid reg ranks right up there with putting the lifeguard station on the pier. Whoever thought that up needs to be fired because he obviously doesn't have the brains to do a job. Sure as hell wouldn't want anybody that stupid trying to rescue me. No doubt, we would both drown. I could just see him throwing me an anchor so I could sink to the bottom and attempt to walk to the beach.

That is NO lie...Did anyone notice a proposed county meeting to discuss spending $45,000 on that? Seems like to me in these cash strapped times that a vote of some kind should've been called...
