New GatorsI went to the Mudhole Open House last weekend and actually met the guy who is now building the Gator Blanks for Mudhole and I guess everyone else. His companny is called Blackfin rods. I talked him about the new blanks not being the right specs of the old and went to his pickup and brought me the revision #3. I dry fired it a few times and it felt like the action was near the old but the Butt was still large in which the 22 reel seat would not fit . A 24 would fit fine. He did inform me that he did buy the original Mandrels from the original Gator owner but they had to be cleaned up.
He said he could adjust the size of the butt and keep the action similar. He also said he knew nothing about the butt size being a problem.....hope is near.
Obie, i left you a message on your cell Saturday regarding this. Feel free to call him to give him any specifics that would help.

Some one tell that guy to clean them mandrels up and get going! Every thing else is not acceptable it seems. Obie, I hope you end up talking to this guy.

Are they being loaded with gobs of primer and diped paint ? This could be adding the bulk.

The one I saw was just like the originals.

I guess my phone is still on the blink as I'm sorry I didn't get your message. If you think it would help I can measure the butt diameter and the diameter of the rod at the reel seat.

Obie,
That would be a great idea. I f you could do that and send that, I will forward that info to the guy at Blackfin.

Here you go. .937 on the butt and .812 at the reel seat.

Is that .812 at front or back of reel seat?

Kind of right in the middle, if they have the original mandrels the should be able to figure it out. Thanks Rick
