Pensacola Bay Fishing Pier

Walk or Ride?
stvtackett

no dog in the fight. however there will be a few cars that go out that are subject not to crank for the return trip and a wrecker will have to go get it. you will have fishers that knock a few back while fishing and then get behind the wheel to leave around other fishers. . boy gulf breeze will have a field day on thier side. they are going to have a fund raiser. went thru gb a few weeks ago and they had 7 cars pulled over before you even got to gbbt.
MS PAT

I THOUGHT I READ IN THE PAPER WHERE IT WOULD BE WALK ON ONLY. NOT WIDE ENOUGH FOR TWO CARS, FISHING CHAIRS, ETC. AND NO PLACE TO TURN AROUND.

I VOTE WALKING THOUGH I PROBABLY WON'T GO THERE EXCEPT FOR SOME MENHADEN TO TAKE TO PALAFOX PIER.
Jigslinger

No dog in the fight yet but plan on retiring down there. When I was a kid, We used to go on the Gulf Breeze side loaded up with ice chests, buckets, crab boxes, rods, bait... It wouldn't have been the same if we would have had to carry all that stuff out there. My vote goes to driving. They just need to enforce a 5 mph speed limit and ban drivers who break it.
Ernie & Linda

How are they going to enforce 5 mph , they would need more then one person working the baitshop and at night they would only have one person when that is where the real danger is. I like the idea of handicapped & elderly driving on but they're not always the best of drivers either... ~L

Hey Steve the Gulf Breeze side is not being rebuit.  They elected to forfeit a substantial amount of FEMA money in order to use the money in a different manner.

Ms. Pat the new bridge/pier is actually about a foot wider than the old bridge.

Sorry I have to ask as I didn't really fish on the old bridge very often, but did many people get run over out there?
jewfish

No dog in this fight either but perhaps they should have some golf carts that people can use to go out there, or at least let approved people have them.

I've never heard of anyone being run over, but it would only take once for someone to have a very bad fishing trip. I have had some very close calls though. The problem really wasn't during the day it was at night when the hoodlums came out there.

I could see it being a problem at night for sure.

A light-weight pier shuttle service could make a walk-on pier that long more inviting.  Seniors and handicapped could ride free, everyone else for a cheap wrist band.  Low rate for kids, etc.

I agree it would be hard to enforce but almost everyone has cell phones. 2 or 3 different parties calling the shack on the same license tag # s should be grounds for a warning. 2 warnings=no driving privileges. It would be hard to keep up with but it would keep most people in line.
Dylan

I agree 100% with Linda...It funny now more people are voting to walk then drive after I got SLAMMED by PFFers at the Seminar at Flounders Monday..
Pier#r

I fished out there a good bit 5-10 years ago, about 60%-40% day to night and noticed no appreciable difference between the drivers.
Never had any problems, but like Linda said, it only takes ONE

But it was such a unique experience (to DRIVE) to your fishing location

IF they do go to 'Walk ONLY' it'd be a good compromise to have regular shuttle service vehicles to ride.
Plus the operators could act as spotters for potential 'trouble-makers'.
Just a thought...

Either way, I will at least try it from time to time.
There was GREAT fishing off the old bridge

They should let the seniors drive on..Also they should get a good looking girl in a cart(much like the golf course) to do shuttle and stuff..
BigKenny

i'll be glad when it opens. Less pressure off us. The white trout fishermen can have at it. Mullet etc. I remember a whole family in august/ september that would jack crevalle fish. Even grandma was there. Hillarious to say the least.
stvtackett

if you fish wear a hard hat.

BAY BRIDGE

IT MAY BE A LITTLE WIDER BUT THERE IS NO TURNAROUND PLACE LIKE ON THE OLD PIER.  I NEVER HEARD OF ANYBODY GETTING RUN OVER BUT I DID HEAR A LOT OF PEOPLE LOST TACKLE TO THIEVES, ESPECIALLY WHEN NIGHT FISHING..
Jigslinger

I thought there was a turnaround on the end??
BIG ROBERT

SPEEDBUMPS
Jigslinger

Why didn't I think of that?
CLEVE3990

There is a turnaround at the end. If you can,t drive, they have wasted taxpayers money by building a turnaround

Welcome to the forum
Palafox pier is at the very end of Palafox street.   The Bay Front Auditorium used to be there now it's just a turnaround and a sea wall.
chaser1987

Thank you, i've been becoming less googan every trip we come down , been down about 8 times this year,  caught some ladyfish, hooked a few spanish, and a darn pufferfish, did some shark fishin at night from the beach, me and my friend hooked up on some 8 foot nurse sharks from the pier, broke one off by the beach, the only reason i treid to beach it was because it was at night, and dylan and his friend wanted me to lol
