question on underwraps

do yall reccomend i use flexcoat on the underwraps on a rod or not ?

fishead i do not coat underwraps. I really do not see the need and it adds extra weight.Someone else may feel diffrent.

i personally dont usually. it does make your top coat go on a little easier but i wouldnt say it is necessary.
the higher end rod builders i know of (john giannini of j&m tackle and cathy kruse of the rod room) almost always flex their underwraps - but they build a lot of rods for conventional tackle up to and over 80#class. truthfully, it is safer and more protection from the guide ever digging into the blank, but on a spinning rod with rarely over 20lbs of pressure put on it, you should have nothing to worry about as long as youve grinded the feet down well.
hope this helps.

I thought it was a good idea with smaller rods that have a slower action (lights & ULs).
The wraps seem to last longer (years) as the extra coat protects the wraps and imobilizes the guides a bit more.
And the weight is really negligable on the smaller rods (just a few ounces for the whole rod).
