Rod RecommendationWhen I came from Atlanta I brought a 9 foot two piece rod with me to use for kings. It does ok but it is a cheapo shakespear and I like the look of the rods many of you guys are using on the pier.
Half Hitch has an 8 foot (15 to 25 line rated) rod they had built for them for $99. A gentleman I fished next to was using one and liked it and caught a 20 lb king with it.
Anyone know of a better $100 rod to buy to pitch frozen cigs or livebait to kings. I will be using a Penn 7500ss on the rod.
Thanks

Pier rodHave you looked at Bass Pro Shops offshore extreme rods? I have a 9ft. that I use for tarpon and cobia. It works great and is a little over 100 dollars.

For around a hundred dollars, i think Ernie or Obie could hook you up with a custom rod. PM those guys.

it might be a little bit more than that but it will pay for itself in no time
it is better to go right the first time rather than haveing to do it twice or more.

There've been some beautiful rods posted on this forum. Please consider checking with Ernie or Obie before making a purchase.

I think that may be their cobe rod. I have a 9' Half Hitch king rod and it is not bad, I suspect you can get a very nice custom if you are willing to wait for not too much more. There is a 2 piece 9' Penn rod I bought at BPS in Destin that, if you have to have a 2 piece, is not too bad, I think it is $80 or so but really light and easy to fish with. I still use it now and then.

Most all of the really good looking rods you see people using for kings and cobes are customs. Obie (TideRider) made me a custom king rod and it is absolutely awesome. Reasonably priced, great craftsmanship, and Obie is a pleasure to deal with. You can't go wrong with a custom rod from reputable builder.

got a great rod from obie as well. not a 2 piece but is an amazing rod. the ones at half hitch a good too. my dad got one like the one you are talking about and he loves it. from my point of view stay away from the BPS offshore extreme rod. it's to stiff for kings. thanks for all the great reports T-boy. keep them coming as long as you are there.
