Sam Scott rod

Anyone have any knowledge about a Sam Scott rod,I just purchased one with a 704z? Rod length is 7'-6".How much 15 lb. test line should the 704 hold?

Never heard of the rod but there's only a jillion rod builders out there.  Some really good, some good and most no better than what you can pull off the rack for a fraction of the cost.

I always spool 704s with 20-25lb line but I'd imagine you'd get well over 300yds on one with 15lb test.  best way to find out is just take it to Academy and have them spool it up.

I once heard a very famous professional fisherman state that if he wasn't being paid to use what he uses or wasn't getting it for free he be using the cheapest tackle he could find that would still get the job done... said that was "how I got here and nothing has materially changed that anyone can prove catches more fish in decades"

Obviously he'd had a few beers but his only qualifying remark was "don't get me wrong this is great equipment and of the highest quality but the fish don't know if your rig cost $50 or $1,000"

A 704 will hold 275 yards of 20. Do the math, it probably takes well over 300 of 15 as suggested above.

The one i owned way back in about 1989 was a ficher/ phisher blank not sure how it was spelled.  Top notch back then from south Florida.

All my 704s/706s and VS are spooled with 15 Lb. line. I LIKE it.

Except the ones spooled with braid.
