I have some two part flex coat that I've had for awhile...I don't really build rods, just keep it to repair the inevitable guide breakage; anyhoo, I replaced a quide the other day, and the flex coat wouldn't dry even after several days. I'm sure I mixed it right...does this stuff go bad?

Is there any other substitute for flex coat for replacing guides, like say epoxy or something? I know if I was building rods I wouldn't want to do that, but just for fixing a guide here and there, flex coat is a pain to work with.

I don't know what the 'shelf life' is

I mixed some this summer that was at least two years old.
The hardner had turned amber brown.
It still 'went off' just fine. I used it to match where some of the finish had peeled off one of my 10 year old rods

Do you keep it outside

Heat & humidity are your enemy.
NEVER mix finish coat when the humidity is high.
Wait for a clear, cool (NOT COLD) day.

that might be the answer! I previously mixed it inside where the AC was...mixed the last time in the garage, pretty hot and humid. I'll try it again later when it gets dry and cool. If it gets dry and cool.

I think the manufacturer of Flex Coat will say that the shelf life is about a year.
You can use it longer than that although the accelerator will be dark. Make sure
to store the epoxy in a cool, dark place and heat it up to at least 70 degrees
when you use it. I put the two bottles in an old plastic coffee can and fill the
can with hot water.
