Sunday 8/23Pretty Dead.
Fished the afternoon and saw very few fish come over the rail. A few spanish, ladyfish and whiting made the count.
I didn't see any kings and I heard there wasn't much action going on earlier in the day.
I'm assuming the tarpon have played their last song for the season?
Baby permit?

Judging by the size of the dorsal and anal fin I believe that is just a chicken pomp, could be wrong. Nice pics though Sean, looks like the googan nation out there on the T.

i'd say i agree with you about the tarpon being done for the year... they've already started showing up pretty thick in the bays. might be time to switch gears and net some menhaden and fish escambia bay.

That's what I thought. Some others were saying it was a permit due to the size of the dorsal.
Either way, it went back into the drink.

I've had some family outings at Navarre Beach recently doing a lot of swimming with goggles on and what not. There are a ton of them baby Pompano around there. And not very spooky either, nipping at your toes and stuff. I tried to catch them with my hand but that didn't work out so well.
BTW, I see they have a picnic table on the end of Pensacola Pier now. When did they do that and is that the only one?

It's been there for a couple months. I heard somebody collapsed the rod rack.

Thanks for the info. Maybe Big Kenny broke the rod rack? That would be fitting as he's the one who originally toted it out there in his truck.
Another observation. In this pic, is that just a long shot view from the second bar or are their benches on the end of the pier now, too?

They sure look close together. There are three of them in the pic, all in focus. None there when I was there last but that's been three weeks or so ago.

Calvin, I think that is just the long shot view. Don't remember benches on the T, but I don't fish it that much so may be wrong. Don't know how all of the benches are all in focus. Pretty cool, new camera (Sony) Sean has!
Sean, those are some neat pics. I am stealing the one of the baby pomp for my album. Too bad we didn't get a pic of that whiting caught on the pink goofy jig! That one would have been nice for the album too.

The pier is the same as always with the exception of a picnic table in lieu of a rod rack. The rod rack came crashing down back in late May or early June. If you come out there without a pier cart there's no place to put your extra rods except on the back rail.
