Two days in one

Friday Night:
I met up with some friends for my usual Friday night fishing.  We started off at the Octagon next to bob sykes and ended at the t-pier.  I caught a nice speck 20" 2lbs walking under the bridge (bob sykes).  Saw him break the top of the water and slung a zoom super fluke at him.  Got him on the first try....sweeeet.  That was it for me other than one white trout caught down at the T-pier.  My friend Mike caught two nice reds off of bob sykes.  One was a keepr and the other was a bull.  His son Steven caught a huge gaff top and a bunch of white trout.  Yankee also caught a bunch of mullet in his net off of bob sykes.

We gave the white trout and most of the mullet away.  Nothing happend at the t-pier so we just took some photos and called it a night.

Sunday:
Some friends and I were having a fish fry later that day so I decided to hit the beach for a couple of hours and try for some fresh meat.  After about 2 hours of nothing I was about to head to the beach pier when suddenly the drag on my 12lb set up took off.  I landed a nice 25.25 inch red and it went right in the cooler.  Of course I had to call up my buddy and tell him we were having fresh redfish on a half shell!  Another hour goes by and bam....drag goes off on the 12lb again......this time it's a 15.5 inch pompano!

I'll post some pics later to day, just a warning the crowd was so eager to get the pomp that they cleaned it before I could get a pic....so all you guys get to see is the head and what the pomp was eating.

They were both caught on fresh shrimp.  A friend came out later with some frozen sand fleas and he had a huge hit as soon as he casted out but he missed it.

The pomps belly was full of fleas and the reds tail was blue (I was told that the tail turns blue when they are feeding on crabs....don't know if it's true).   Both were caught in front of the first sandbar.

The fish fry came out great!  We had snapper, white trout, redfish on a half shell and grilled pompano, steamed shrimp, cheese grits, fries, coleslaw, key lime pie, and brownies.......no wonder I'm fat!
