Two QuestionsDoes anybody know if there's something out there I can use to strip the finish on a few old rods I have laying around. I'd like to rebuild them but I'd like to start over with a clean blank.
Also, I just bought an old sewing machine I'm going to transform into a rod wrapper. I figured the motor with the variable footswitch would be perfect but I need some ideas for a chuck to hold the rod. Any ideas/suggestions?

Hey Jigslinger!
I have the plans on how to make a power rod wrapper using a sewing machine moter.
If you have Microsoft Word, I will send you the plans for free. I sold these on EBay for
$5.00 a pop and made about $200.00!
When I have an old rod to refurbish, I start by carefully scraping the old finish off with
a box cutter kinfe. Keep the blade a 90 degrees to the blank and you shouldn't harm
the blank at all. After the old finish is removed, I smooth sand the blank using the fine
sanding mesh used for drywall. To remove all the dust, I wipe the blank with a clean
rag and rubbing alcohol.
I use model airplane paint to recolor a blank by rubbing it on with my finger, and then I
use two-part epoxy for a nice hard glossy finish. Seems to work well for me, but I'm
sure there are many other ways to do the same thing!
Let me know if you want the power wrapper plans.

That sounds like exactly what I need! I figured somebody has done this before. I would really appreciate that Skipper! Thanks. My email is in my profile.

Hey Jigslinger!
Something is wrong with your email address in your profile! Every
time I try to send you an email, it gets returned as undeliverable.

It's possible that the settings on his email through his internet provider won't allow large file size attatchments. Just something to ponder?

That was my screw up. I should've had a bottom slash in my name instead of a hyphen. I think it's fixed now if you want to give it another try. Thanks for letting me know!

Hey skipperq1, I just realized the address hadn't been fixed. It is now for sure if that offer still stands.
