Wednesday 10/14/09 *BFT Edition*Ok so me and another guy noticed a fish jumping out of the water in the distance. We thought it could be a Black Fin Tuna. About like 20 min later, a school of bait was getting busted up near the pier, and it was coming straight towards us. As it came closer we noticed it was a small school of Black Fin Tuna working the bait  They came to the front of the pier within casting range. There were 2 hookups. 1 was landed that I believe was 22 lbs. The other one was lost. Was going to get a pic but the guy who caught it went straight to the shack to get his 1 year pier pass. It was pretty awesome to see. A couple of Sails were also in the area. Didn't see any Kings or Spanish while I was there.

Great report! I got into a school about 2 weeks ago but haven't seen any since. Ernie & I have both fished hard the last 2 days, nothin but some spanish and a King - I want a bft, thanks for the incentive to get out in the morning

Thats great news! I wish I could have seen it.
Does anyone know who the last person was to land a Blackfin on Okaloosa and when was it? Was it Matt, that works on the Swoop, a few years back?

I dunno...but heard through the grapevine it was Matt Workman that got the BFT today...CONGRATS!!!! Maybe we can get a few this year!!!

Wow. He told me the other day he either hooked or landed a sail a few days ago. And now this Blackfin. Cool! Way to go Matt!

Last BFT I had eat was off pensacola around 4 years ago and he ate a gold yo-zuri mag minnow. Of course 2 bulls popped on his ass end and promptly devoured my fish. Bastards.

yeah, it was matt workman. he called me from the pier shack right after he got it weighed and stuff. he got a keeper sail last week too. been a great week for him. hopefully my great week is coming up soon. the way my luck has been going, i'd be happy with a great hour.
congrats matt, way to go getting both those fish in.

I caught a blackfin in December 2003, it was the first Saturday. Another was caught two days later, last I know of.

Thanks for the congrats guys, it's definitely been a good week for me being able to catch my first sail and BFT all in one week off of a pier. It was awesome seeing them sky right at the pier though, I'm surprised he ate seeing his stomach was stuffed with Ballyhoo. Almost caught my first dolphin this am, lost him at the gaff. gaffer got the rope twisted around my line and I got burned off but I wont say any names  . Ah well, at least they got the other 2 up. 13# and 12# hit the deck and mine was around 15 or so.
