What do you do when the fish aren't biting?

I am a man of a bunch of hobbies and one super supportive wife. When I am not fishing, I have a recording studio at my house for making music. I also build hand drums.(When the economy was better I sold a bunch all over the US and Europe, with one down in the Caribbean) I have in the past built an electric guitar. (I would like to do that again!) I have also rekindled an interest in rod building. I am also in to making Flies. I would like to get into building cobia jigs and pompano jigs. (have done some jig building in the past.) I am beginning to develop a serious inclination to collecting lefty Mitchells too. (This one may be bad in the long run...)

And to support all of these hobbies I work for Buffalo Rock as a fountain installer.

So, what are you in to? We all know of each other through fishing and the forum and that doesn't cover all of who we are... we are not one dimensional folks.

So?
jewfish

To support my severe fishing addiction, I work for Sprint. I have been there for almost 4 years now. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

If I'm not fishing, working or getting yelled at by my old lady, I'm playing online poker or scambaiting. Scambaiting is finding Nigerian scammers, giving them completely made up information and tricking them into doing a number of stupid things. My personal favorite is sending them on "safaris", which is a trip of at least 200 miles or crossing a country's border. My personal record is somewhere over 3000 miles roundtrip and a 2 week stranding in Darfur.

I bought a new 2001 Harley Sportster.(The Buelstr) In the last 9 yrs I have ridden that bike all over the Southeast United States. 60,000 miles in 5 yrs. I put all the Buell hotrod goodies in the engine over that time. 86 hp to the back wheel. I will have 30yrs in at the city of Dothan in Dec. I'm contemplating retiring and moving to the P.C. area in the next year or two.

I can work on all types of Reels mainly Penn and Mitchell so I may pursue that interest in the future.

Build rods, jigs, lures, also play guitar, mandolin, enjoy my old 1976 Harley Superglide, also keep up with my little boat, maintain the crib and take care of our 3 dogs and 3 cats (even though one of our cats has relocated two houses down the street),

Nice stuff!

living so far away limits the opportunities for fishing. although i do find time to feed my addiction playing with 706's. other than that i am a slave to a few things. i have a demanding job that luckily has a slow time from may until late july which give me a few opportunities to make it to one the piers, then all hell breaks loose and from early aug until after labor day there is very little time for much at all. during my peak time i am responsible for over 100 full time employees spread over a 325,000 grocery distribution center. i also have a high maintenance home, son and ball and chain. this is the condensed version, however you i am sure get the idea of what i do when i ain't fishin.

I collect Grateful Dead shows - have a little over 200 right now  . I'm also big into saltwater fish keeping - currently have 2 tanks a reef tank and a predator tank. Also try to read a lot - mostly nonfiction and WW2 related material. Nothing too interesting.

Hey Bo, I listen to radiodead on itunes all the time.     When you say you collect shows are you talking video or what?

Live concerts and live concert dvds. Got a lot of them off archive.org and got a lot from trading shows through the mail with other collectors.

I'm glad someone is messing with them! I've gotten some pretty ridiculous emails from them. Keep up the great work!

One of my all time favorites. This was not my doing, as much as I'd like to claim this stroke of genius.

That website has enough laughs and funny stories to get you to Christmas if you spent every day reading it.

Nah but he is running for Grand Poobah of the Pier Rats... I just wish he put so much effort in to school as he does pier fishing.
DevnDeb

I graduated from the USAF in December of 2007 with 22 years and change in...I'm now an instructor at Hurlburt Field, fl where I teach Air Refueling Planning for Air Operations Centers around the world. Hobbies (Besides Fishing) include flying, reading, throwing the ball to my border collie and flight instructing. My house also takes a bit of time...but I manage...
blaminack

Even if I started it, I love this thread. Many of you have super interesting things in your lives.

I work offshore for ECO,engine room, so when I'm not working I'm still at work...  When I'm off the boat for my two weeks I fish, do the family thing, drink(excessively), bowfish, hunt, skate, surf, and throw money at Ernie, Obie, or Gulf Breeze Bait and Tackle.
blaminack

Manny was the wimmens a reference to the mamma in "The Waterboy"?

Don't forget to check out that Bubble Boy movie that I told you about. Comedy classic.
the original pier pest

First of all let keep in mind that I am only 23. I work for a Group Home for Disturbed Youth. I work with high risk youth with rap sheets that would make some of the people on this forum blush, I also work with kids with mental conditions. I go to college full time at Auburn University of Montgomery, and I will finish my degree in the spring of 2010. I am a father of two, one is 6 months and the other is 4 years old. I am married to my high school sweet heart, who is addictied to fishing also. In my spare time I shoot competitively and also tinker on my firearm arseal. I also load custom ammunition for all the firearms that I own. I also fish whenever I come close to saltwater. I have fished for and caught all the billfish species in the world. While trying to accomplish that I went to Venezuala, Panama, Baja Mexico, and Kona. During the winter months I take up the hobby of hunting, with bow and gun, but it is beginning to get boring and I now want to kill a deer at over 500 yards. But the goal this year is to take my 4 year old with me and let him see a deer that is not behind a fence. But that is my life in a nut shell.

I used to work offshore as a boat captain, so I know exactly what you mean. Get home and all of a sudden you open your bag and all of your clothes smell like diesel fuel. You hardly bother taking them out. Then you load up on tackle for fishing on the next trip.
outlawsr <0)))>{

hey jeb you know charlie want to sell his 50 for 1500 bucks he paid 2500 for it get it man its a steal and it didnt come with a scope he has a big ass scope on it to

kingling

Why yes, yes it was.
T-Boy

Have a bassboat and 25 rod and reel combos. Yes I'm a fishing equipment addict. Retired after 40 years of corporate stuff and trying to settle in to not having to do something or be somewhere.

Need a motorcycle to kill myself but hey we all gotta go sometime.

Love the ocean and saltwater fishing and will be coming to PC about 2 months a year.

Love college football but wish I had some other skills at building something or playing a musical instrument.

I guess being a chick magnet is all I'm good at. Ok, I made that part up.

Pier wise? I am usually fishing  and nothing is around(should have been here yesterday deal.)
Work all the time,pay bills...
FishAddict

About all I do is work, sleep, eat, and fish, with an occasional hunting trip. Unfortunately my work requires significant out of the country travel, so that cuts deep into my fishing. I keep reminding myself that work funds fishing. I've been getting as much travel out of the way as possible so I can enjoy the fall fishing.
T.MASS

If the fish aren't biting at the pier they might be biting somewhere else, so im lookin for them! I did work until like a month ago when i was let go after 4 years of working there, I also go to school full time at UWF working on a marine biolgy degree. I also hangout with the gang at Hot Spots B&T if im not fishing or at school.
blaminack

Nice T-Mass! I have always been fascinated with Marine Biology. It was my favorite class in High School a couple of decades ago.
