what's biting in jan-feb?

those condo's on the island have a great monthly rate for jan and feb...so what is biting that time of year
paleoguy

Not much to talk about. Maybe the odd bluefish or redfish and there are still a few winter bobo's passing through the first part of January. That's about it until the latter part of March....

how 'bout offshore? i know it's a pier fishimg forum...but every once in awhile i fall off the wagon....
blaminack

Sheephead and in the end of Feb. you can catch squid which is a blast.
jewfish

Offshore, grouper but I think the season might be closed on them at that point. Jan-Feb are two months I dread, it's really slow.
FishAddict

They catch white trout and reds in Pensacola this time of yr. The piers get really slow. Go look at some old Jan/Febreports on the Okaloosa pier blog.

PIER REPORT

HAD A PRETTY GOOD KING RUN THIS AFTERNOON-EVENING.  SAW 6 PUT ON THE DECK, AND KNOW OF AT LEAST 5 THE AIRBREATHING SOB GOT, TO INCLUDE ONE OF MINE.  SAILFISH CAME IN UNDER THE BALIHOO BUT WAS NOT HOOKED UP.    SAL CAUGHT AN 18 LB MACK THAT PUT HIM IN 2ND PLACE IN THE PIER TOURNAMENT.  HOPE THE FISH ARE THICK AND LUCK IS BETTER TOMORROW.

That sailfish was cool. He was fired up. I don't think that guy knew he got ate. We were yelling at him to set the hook.
And don't forget that blackfin. Within casting range. Thought someone got ate. Maybe soon it will happen.

That's awesome.  I just may have to make a trip over to OIP if blackfins stick around.

EARLY REPORT FROM OIP

I WENT OUT ABOUT 10 TO GET T-SHIRTS FROM CARL. THEY WERE CATCHING CIGS ON THE END, SO WENT BACK TO THE TRUCK AND GOT MY GEAR. OF COURSE THEY HAD NEARLY QUIT BY THE TIME I GOT GACK TO THE END.  DID CATCH A FEW AND A COUPLE HOUND/NEEDLE FISH, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THEM.  TWO SAILS SHOWED UP, SMALL AND LARGE. LITTLE MATT GOT THE BIGGER ONE. SHOULD BE POSTING PICTURES. THREE KINGS HUNG - FILPPER 1, PILINGS 2. JIM AND CARLOS ARE SNAKE BIT RIGHT NOW. DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE HAPPENED. TIDE LIINE CAME IN AND TURNED THE WATER TO CRAP  SO I WENT HOME.  HOPE TOMORROW IS BETTER.
