wtt for penn squidder

looking for a squidder, i have a mitchell 306 with pum or a penn 710 converted to pum, the bail wire was taken off and parts changed to insure the line roller rolls. the 710 has a 704 handle for better ergonomics   . i am looking for a penn squidder wide body. i will be in gs next weekend if anyone has one...

I have a few. But I have to order a spool for one and a side plate for another. But if you catch charlie on the pier I know he has a few that he might be willing to part with. If you want I can give him a call.
stvtackett

i'll call him. thanks...

Not a problem. I will be out there this weekend but I kind of want to keep my squidders. I plan on magging them and upgrading the bearings to ABEC 5s to give it a little more castability. Maybe I can hit those pesky boats that just don't know what a hundred yards is.

i would really like a 10000 but to pricey for what i need it for...

There is one for sale on ebay for 199.99. But when you think that I paid 200.00 for my wife's 9000 in the box  and it had never been used so it is a little steep.
stvtackett

yea, they are a bit pricy for me...

Whatcha going to use if for if you dont mind me asking?

Have you thought about a calcutta 700 with level wind. I have one and it is a great reel. You can find a used one for a pretty reasonable price.

I know you are interested in making a trade for a squidder, but was wondering if you had noticed this one on ebay?  http://cgi.ebay.com/PENN-SQUIDDER...090830?IMSfp=TL090830152005r10623  It looks to be in real good condition (all the chrome appears to be shiny as new with no pits or corrosion) and the seller claims that it is from the first edition of squidders produced in the 1940s.  If that is true and I were in the market for one I would consider buying this working condition relic.
stvtackett

i appreciate the heads up plot, i will check it out.

That reel looks like it has never been out of the box. If I had the funds avaliable right now I would buy it.
stvtackett

it sure is purdy, but i don't do paypal.

I don't want to take this off topic, but what are the reasons for not doing paypal.  I have used it in the past with not a single hitch.  If there is a legitimate problem with it, I would be thankful for a heads up about it if and when I ever decide to start doing ebay thing again (not a problem with ebay either, just cash flow).
stvtackett

plot, it is my issue. i have used paypal without a hitch. i have a problem giving acct numbers out. i have missed out on alot of stuff for not using it
but i would rather roll the dice by sending a postal m.o.

Thanks for the answer Steve.  I know exactly what you are feeling about giving account numbers out.  I was apprehensive about pay pal both times I had signed up for it in the past and probably will again if there is a third time.

To get back to the topic, have you considered a Shakespeare Tidewater conventional?  I have seen them online and in Walmart stores for $50 or less.  It wouldn't be my choice for a saltwater reel but think it may fit into your snatching program fairly well and maybe even a better choice than a Squidder (but not better than a Jigmaster)
stvtackett

was going with the devil i know, i think i can work on it if there is a problem, parts are aval.
outlawsr <0)))>{
