PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - Officials say a Florida Panhandle Fish and Wildlife officer lost a 5-foot alligator after bringing it to his daughter's school for show and tell.

Searchers scoured a wooded area surrounding the school Friday afternoon. The alligator jumped out of the man's vehicle Friday morning. The animal's mouth was taped.

Fish and Wildlife Spokesman Stan Kirkland says alligators have "amazing" jumping ability and that allowed it to escape.

They think they have located the gator but have not caught it yet. I would think if it is near the scene of the escape and has a taped up mouth it is probably the same gator.

They do escape easily. I had one when I was young (in Georgia) and he used to escape and go to the city swimming pool and go swimming. My brother and I got pretty good at catching him in a pool.
My father finally let him go in the Okeefanoke swamp while on his way to Fl.

The funny thing is that Chad was JUST telling me about seeing his buddy the Game Warden at Half Hitch buying stuff to catch an alligator yesterday and smacking ticks off of him...

TRUE SO TRUE

Better one for ya.
From my understanding the alligator did not actually have its mouth taped shut at the time of escaping. He was in half hitch buying a weight treble to catch him with.

The latest report includes tragic news.  The escaped gator appears to have eaten UGA.
