those are tough ones for me as i spent some time away from pier but will try.
mike what ever his name is
jack jones
albert faulk

dennis rice 53 lbs
47 and a half, old dude from robertsdale calvin i think
47 lbs will not give name cause i do not want to help any one first initial b last initial w so you know i know what i am talking about..

and 65 on the sun and fun pier.
probably wrong on that one i'm sure, i guess i could call hollis.

i don't know if any one can get closer but i doubt it on all the answers. there may have been another manager between faulk and jones. that was the time i spent away. i may have helped someone with some answers as i know some are accurate.

Albert was first, then Jack, then Mike.  Didn't really keep up with who had the biggest king, but at one time John Dotson and his wife, and John Pierce had the largest. As for the ribbons, they were already in use at the old DI pier when gspp opened. Those of us who came over brought the technology with us, so to speak.  Didn't see many around for awhile, but they caught on after folks learned how to make them. Hope my old mind hasn't slipped a bit, but thats what it tells me, how'd I do???

OK, here goes... Let's recap

Name the last 3 pier managers on the old GSP

Mike Guinn (also current)
Jack Jones
? Cash
Albert Faulk

List the last 3 pier records on king mackerel from most recent to the first long standing record-Name of fisherman and weight(old pier)

Whew, that's a good one as I heard several people 'claim' they held the record. About 4 or 5 who claimed they caught 50#rs on the old pier.
But the only ones I know that were recorded were:
Dennis Rice 51#
John Pierce 51#
And I KNOW Bob Chandler caught a 48#r in the 1970s cuz he toll me so

Unless you are thinking of Sid Bakal. But he told he caught his 63#r from the old Sun-N-Fun pier while the State Pier was being built.

Tell me the month and year that the red bait ribbon was first introduced to the Alabama Pier fisherman

HA! that's a great one!
I KNOW they were already in widespread use at the pier in June 1972 when I first fished there.
I always heard the red ribbon rig idea came from Florida.
So I'll say June (or July) 1965.

That's it, I'm locking in my answer

i agree with dave on all but the last king, 47lb caught by b.d. wetzel. chandler full of shizzzzz...

even if you believe i have the right answer, give the reel to dave if we answered all correctly. he is correct everybody said that caught a 50 pound mack back then and 99.9% were full of shizzz.

btw, who caught the biggest bluefish

As for bluefish, I shall endeavor to claim a small portion that title. Back around 1980 we had a big run of Atlantic blues into the northern gulf coast. I caught one off the old gsp that weighed 13lbs. 2oz. just 6 oz. off the state record of 13lbs. 8 oz.  I heard someone caught a blue even larger than that about a month later but that was only hearsay. I understand several state records fell that year along the gulf coast. I know the Alabama record did. It was over 16 lbs. and still stands today. Folks, yall need to keep this up, I love shootin the bull about the old days. this is great!!

i caught one about the same size in 79, will have to dig the article up. mine beat the state record at  the time, also won the weekly sandpiper fishing tournament. was in sandpipers freezer when frederick hit.

btw, do you know me???

sleeping in the van, chandler and walker(killer bob) side by side in thier vans and catch dog and family under the pier. i bought a 706 from chandler a few months ago and he told me he would be on the pier as soon as it opened but don't believe he has been there, i think david talks to him regularly. i think he has health problems.

I'm sure you meant Wahoo. I've always wondered if anyone in history has ever landed a Wahoo off any of the gulf coast piers in Alabama and Florida.

sailfish are far more migratory than whaoo. i would assume with a lot of confidence that a wahoo has never been caught on a gulf coast pier, and won't ever be caught. when i worked on boats, we caught/saw billfish within a few miles of the beach several times, but never a wahoo. i'd say a blue marlin is more likely to be seen from the pier than a wahoo. they just seem to stick in their "comfort zone" more than most.

This was the standing record at the old pier. It was caught on May 5, 1991. It weighed in at 54 pounds, and the scale was recalibrated before the fish was weighed. It was caught on a alywife, that was borrowed from Doc, that was hanging between two pilings and hit while a school of Jacks came through. The fight lasted for 45 minutes before John Pierce stuck it with a gaff.
