Bait is/was everywhere. Cigs, threads and herring out the ying-yang. Just some small kings landed but the bonita were everywhere. Bobby hooked a monster king on a rattletrap that took over 200 yards of line but flipper broke it off.

The sails were back again and so were the cobia. I got a sail to turn on a bait but he didn't connect. There were set lines snarling up things something fierce and the wind didn't help either. I did get a king, a spanish and a bonita throwing a diamond jig.

Gonna go to my doctor's appointment at 1, then head back out around 230.

Should the boneheads be pretty thick from here on out?

Also, what size diamond jig were you throwing? I'm going to pick up some Deadly Dick's before I come down next time (hopefully this weekend.) I think these would be money on king/Spanish/bobo

I have officially decided that flipper is evil.

Bob it is. I thought it was getting confusing.

Bama, I was throwing a 2 or 3 oz Braid jig. It'll fly with the rod I'm using.

Robert put me onto a GOOD place to eat breakfast.
Thanks Robert. While I was there I did manage to catch a legal King, Giving me four Kings off four different Piers. THAT WAS MY GOAL !!!

Thanks to everyone also. I learned a lot and met some very nice people.

I'm also confused by the people that place set lines out in the wind and take up 70% of one side of the end to catch remoras. I guess they paid their money and they can do what they want.

Anyway, I might get to fish a couple more days before going back to Atlanta and really appreciate everyone sharing the knowledge you only get by being there and doing it.

I ended up with 14 Kings for the month which was a blast and it will be very hard to take the bassboat out and fish for 3 lb spots on Lake Lanier.

I wish everyone the best.

I go by Bob to my friends. Robert is my son and the name my ex clients knew me by when I was still a Revenue Agent.

Nice fishing with you Carl. That was a nice size eating King you caught Sunday. Glad you liked the food. I ate Sunday lunch there and it was great.

The way the management nowadays does us they would paint the red line and paint set rods only........ I cant wait for the county pier to be done I think it will be more fisherman friendly

getem all cleared out guys!  I will be down there starting Sunday for a whole week of fun.  One goog (which is me) is enough on the pier.  Kinda like what Jackie said on Smokey and the Bandit, "only one moose tw##t at a time!"

Ok guys you are going to hate me but I have to say this and I REALLY HATE to.

People with Set lines have just as much right to the Entire pier as we do. They pay the same price we do. It is inconvienient but it is reality. We DO NOT own the pier. It is there for everyones use wether we are casters, floaters, Kingers, Lingers, Sharkers, or GOOGINS!

And the Management does poruse these sites and if ANY ONE is caught cutting someones line on the RUSSELL/FIELDS Pier they will Be BANNED for life off the pier and PCB Police will be called.

This was told to me by Carry, Ron, Chuck, Fred, and Joe. It was brought up cause Someone tried to cut my line on the Shark Rod the other night and they bout ended up in the Emergency room and I about ended up in Prison again.

I KNOW it sucks with set lines. I Know also that floating lines at night SUCK too. We just have to work with each other and get along or the Pier will just be closed off to fishing period and the County pier is going to be set up Rules Wise just like RUSSELL/FIELDS.

Yup, there's people fishing set lines off the end during the day, often right in the middle of people who are king fishing. Set lines are bad enough, it's even more annoying when they are left unattended, especially in a strong 20+ knot wind. The one that got me today was the people who had all of their crap piled in the corner plus a rusty filet knife on top of a plastic bucket that I could have sliced my leg open on.

Oh yeah, and the woman who had dead shrimp on a wire leader suspended under a balloon.   I wanted to ask on what planet does that even remotely make sense?

Bottom Fishing is allowed at ALL Times, 24/7/365, ANY WHERE on the pier.

Not trying to start a fight y'all. Just letting you know of the rules and consequences of violations of said rules. Beings I have had to find out the HARD way fighting with people wrapping up my Shark Rod Line. LOL LOL

Well it appears everything will work into the favor of setline fishers.King,Ling fishers get screwed. In my opinion,it will work itself out,in it's own way.Never was like this back in the day.....

They've already done a great job of making the pier unfriendly to fishermen, the fact that there is no marking off a designated area just proves the point.

Here's what really gets me, most people (I emphasize, MOST) eventually recognize that they're out of their level or out of place slinging dead squid off the end during a hot king bite. Some people still don't get it, like the two Mensa candidates I was dealing with yesterday who were slinging baits towards the bottom while I was trying to fight my sail.

Today's crowd looked like the first trickle of snowbirds. I imagine I'll be told all about surf fishing for stripers before the week is out.

You and your long lost cousin from Minnesota with his musky rod would have had alot of catching up to do today. I think it was his wife that had the Zebco lightup spinning reel and dead shrimp under the balloon.

Manny is right about some snowbirds being there. I know and have fished with several of them for many years now. In general they know what they are doing. Just takes them a day or so to get used to saltwater again.

Try about 60 Parrots up on your shoulder and rail while fighting the shark Bro.   And lets get me started on gaffing and bringing one up over the rail.

LOL Yeah King. I watch y'all on the day shift and try to learn from what y'all go through. But it seems the Bigger the fish the bigger the croud. I am just trying to find the Shark Hooked Up on The RUSSELL/FIELDS Pier CHANNEL and shut that Joker down. I swear Bro that there will be NO ONE on the pier but Justin, I, and a couple of the guys Sharkin. But as soon as that 12/0 goes off and I set the Hook, there is 150 dang Lookie Lous hangin on me like a drunkin date!!!! LOL LOL LOL LOL And the fun ones are the ones that get between the Rod tip and the Rail right up against the Power Pro line as it is being RIPPED OFF by a big fish.   I'm waiting for one of them leanin into that line and getting cut BAD! That scares the crap outa me!!!! Cause even though it isn't my fault, who do ya think is going to get the blame and possible BANNED because of it?

Ok this isnt going to be to long but I am going to say something.

1.If rules are not enforced nothing will ever change.
2.Everyone pays the same price to fish. How they fish is their choice.
3.King Ling theory. People just don't care.

Now... What is everyone about to do on Thursday of this week.
Everyone is going to go buy a pier pass.
This is the best opportunity to have your voice heard.
If 100 people walk in on Thursday complaining about the rules someone might listen.
Petitions are great. Get'em signed and take to the next city council meeting.
News Media is always there in some form. Another way to be heard.
Complaining to the staff on the pier isn't going to get anything accomplished.

VOCALIZE to the right people.

I hate everything that goes on as well as everyone else, but guess what?
We don't matter.
It's all about money to the City of Panama City Beach.....

Just my .02

I'm also confused by the people that place set lines out in the wind and take up 70% of one side of the end to catch remoras. I guess they paid their money and they can do what they want.

Ready for a sermon??

I am now 69 years old and first came to the Dan Russell Pier in 1987.  I bought a year's pass ($60 or so, I think, since I didn't live in the PCB environs).  I really got excited by the spring cobia (ling) season, as well as the king run. I watched the regulars (I especially remember a super-fine older gentleman by the name of John, who was always there every day, & very friendly) and learned a lot about proper techniques.  I even caught some ling & kings.  John & I would occasionally commiserate with each other about the younger guys (a number of them would come over from Navarre during ling season, but I'm sure there were locals also, who  may be still posting here) who would push you out of the way, & curse you in the process, for "interfering" with their superior ability, knowledge & techniques of fishing.  John would ask, "do they think they bought the Pier with their $3?" ( the good old days on prices!)
I quit going to the pier some years ago precisely because of the attitudes of many (thankfully not all) of the fishermen who were overly impressed by their ability to catch  A FISH, FOR GOD"S SAKE, not exactly the brightest animal on the Earth!
Please excuse me, but I see the same attitudes reflected lately, by the "Googan" (don't remember that term back then) references & the complaining about people who paid the same amount of their hard-earned money to enjoy their time on PCB, but don't fish the "proper way".
C'mon folks...try to help educate newcomers in methods of catching more fish, & more exciting species than remoras.  Take a little time from your all important ego-building exercises & help others.  You'll probably find that it makes you feel a litlle better about humanity (and more importantly, yourself) in the process.

Here endth the First Lesson.

Cracker1,

I understand where you are coming from on that.
But here is the deal. Ask Blaminack.

We standing out there one saturday king bite was on.
Blam seen this gentlemen using a spoon with a LY attached.
He repeatedly through out and reeled in.
Blam walked over to the gentlmen to offer some advice..
Here is the reply.

I am 45 years old and think I know how to fish.

Trying to help people is one thing.
But trying to school 10 or 15 people at one time is another thing.

Exactly...

There's ignorance and then there is willful ignorance. Trust me, any one of us will gladly tie a leader for someone, gaff a fish and show someone how to catch their first king. Heck, most of the time I get more enjoyment out of showing a googan how to catch a fish and watching them finally realize what's really going on.

Here's what I hate, the arrogant, ignorant people who leave their trash everywhere and refuse to get out of the way of people who have fish on. I'll laugh at the others, it's part of the price of admission.

It's true... Some folks have ego wrapped up in their knowledge and some folks have their ego wrapped in pride to protect their apparent ignorance. I have always seen folks welcome at the rail until they treat others disrespectfully repeatedly.

I for one am always willing to stop and share what I know. I have seen almost all of the regulars pass on their knowledge. That is exactly how I got the pier specific knowledge and friendship that make the pier fun even when the fish aren't biting.

I don't like all of the judging of others either, and I am doing my best to help my son not think it is just great to make fun of folks that don't do things the "expected" way. However some folks just make that so hard, by having the excellent combination of ignorance and arrogance.

AMEN Manny! I agree with you 100%!!!! Just a little history about myself. I used to work at the Pier Store and I am Friends or Well known by all the guys that work the Pay booth or Clean the pier. So I am ALWAYS hearing about what is going on on the pier. I am always hearing about the condition that the guys are finding the pier here lately I.E. the Romoras stacked up on the deck. Trash on the Deck. Etc. Etc. The CITY Boys are NOT IMPRESSED with this and I have to listen to a daily lecture on this. Now I am finding myself cleaning the pier at night while Shark Fishing just soooooooo I don't have to listen to said lectures and I HATE TRASH I.E. Romoras, Bait, Trash on the Pier now. I pay to fish and relax. NOT Clean Up after everyone else who can't hit a trash can 3 feet away from where they are standing or just HATE a certain species of fish. Hell just stab the Damn Romoras and throw them over. It will bring in more bait fish and Keep the pier clean. LOL LOL

Gotta put in a no bottom gishing line out there like Okaloosa's got, at least for during the day. When the tourists are out there and tempers start to flare next summer, you'll know why. It sounds bad already.

I think that the majority of the trash you will find out there is not from the locals, and certainly not from the regulars. Now as far as the remoras, I try to kick them back in as soon as they've had a little sun.

LOL I know Manny. I know that You, Bill, Christian, Justin, Bob, and a few others are great about helping out. Keeping things clean. Working with people. But I also must be honest. This is not just a tourist thing. As much as I hate to admit it. It is ALSO a LOCALS thing too. Both the Trash and the Fish. With the ignorance I place that on the tourists. They don't know any better. The arrogance I place on the LOCALS who I see doing this. They DO KNOW better but don't care cause they have been fishing the pier for years. I see it day in and day out and it makes me sad cause I was NEVER raised that way and I am trying to teach the Boys ( Mine and the ones who hang with me Sharkin ) the values that I was raised with. Cause I'm afraid that this won't be Enjoyed by the boys and girls in the future if it keeps going the way it is.
