I've seen so many great reports from awesome anglers on here that I feel they need a forum to represent. One of these days you may see my old butt sitting out there with you. Thanks.

That is a great idea Obie. I was thinking the same thing the other day. There will probably be more and more yakkers in the years to come. _________________ Brad Tucker

Great idea Obie.
You can bet one of the first things I do when I move down is get a yak. I've been fishing in a pirogue since I was a kid so the yak should be a smooth transition. Looking forward to the posts. _________________ Rob

agree...PFF mods have their thumbs up their asses with respect to Tex's banning. This was a good idea, Obie. |

Thanks folks. I also want everyone to know this little spot wasn't set up to compete with http://www.gulfcoastkayakfishing.com or the PFF, but only to be a place where our multifunctional pier folks who kayak out to their fishing spots will have a friendly place to put a report or pictures. _________________ Go Fishing you can't catch them sitting on the couch!!!

As of a few years ago I don't follow the PFF on a day to day basis anymore like some of the more prominent Pcola pier rats still do and are loyal to. Why they are loyal to that place is beyond me This pier forum, as I remember it, was created soley because of another past incident on the PFF related to pier rats vs boaters. And now those rats it was created for don't even post here anymore. They suck PFF asses with pride. I am lucky to even read a few items on PFF once a week anymore. On most days I would rather sew quilts with my mother in law than to look at the PFF. Having said that, can someone please give me the cliff notes on Tex's banning so I don't have to wade through all the sewer to find the answer. _________________ Calvin Martin

this is the attitude of ALOT of pff'ers. they look down on pier fishers. although tex's deal was a boater was jealous of the catch and had a problem with linda and jake's catch also. he kept on and tex continued to post BAN HIM. I got a p.m. from a mod cause i questioned the reason for banning him. if they would have dealt with the other guy in the right manner then there would not have been a problem with tex. now this is a post from a mod awhile back on pff, maybe the pier rats can read this and see that they are not very thought of by this mod...

drew...michas a good kid, and just from being around him a few times i can tell he's a heck of a fisherman. He doesn't have to settle for the pier theres plenty of folks on here that would enjoy having him onboard, myself included

even worse now that you guys are catching sails, snapper, grouper and tarpon in yaks and most all of these on piers. now they are going to be like bass fishers. they spend their whole childhood on shore casting as far as they can, then they grow up buy a 30 grand boat and get as close shore as the can and cast to shore.some of these guys are spending thousands of dollars on ships and not catching anymore than fish than the yak and pier fishers. _________________ "you look so much cuter with something in you mouth" nickelback

Tell them to get close. I will be glad to take some lures from them. Also I have fished on boats all over the world for billfish and not once have I ever had a problem sleeping due to excitment. When the pier opened up I went to the beach two weeks after it opened and the night before we went fishing I literally got 2 hours of sleep. And as far as the screen name goes I signed up on the website with the screen name of Billcollector and they have not said a word to me. Although if they want to see my collection of billfish bills I will be glad to show them. I have a 5 gallon bucket full now, and still going. _________________ "Anyone can catch a king but not everyone can gaff one" (Charlie V.) |

I've done some boat fishing. I love pier fishing. IMHO it takes more skill to be successful catching fish from a pier. Boat fishing can be too easy.
BTW the Kayak part of this forum is gonna be really interesting. How can you not admire the skill it takes to paddle, catch fish, and take pictures at the same time. _________________ I'd rather be Pompano fishing ! |

I LOVE the idea of having a Yak forum section...You will probably never see my old ass in one, as I'm sure I'd flip...fall in...drown...and my wife would be LOADED...nope...I'll stick to the pier and an occasional boat ride... _________________ Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,

Thanks for creating this section Obie. I'm one of those that fishes both and I'm moving a little closer to the water soon. _________________

Sweet i just noticed the new section. Thanks Maybe we can start a sticky to help some of you crossover to become more multifunctional fishermen and women as Obie cunningly put it. First off, Linda and i are pier anglers true and true. We know the forum is 95% pier fishing chat, and we havent quite been in attendance latley at our new pier paridise here in pc, but damn this yak fishing is addictive. You guys gotta try it im telling you.
Im deffinetly feeling all these new doors opening just beyond the 25' depth. Its a preety rapid drop off along the coast here. The bounties are a few paddle strokes away to access, bait forever, fish feeding, bird activity, ect. Cant tell you you how deadly it is slowtrollin or power drifting a few livies. Confidence is high in a yak. You just know the fish will find your baits.
I hope more of you can join in. Its not expensive ,for about the price of a new stall you could be fully outfitted and whackin em. No fuel and its good for the old ticker. Also , i believe sunjammers is going to offer discount rentals to pier folk. The tournaments are a blast too. So whats stoppin you. If this sounds like a plea, it is, because its funner in numbers and theres just not enough of use around here. Dont fear your diving in so deep that a new hobby will take the place of pier fishing , it wont because its still a weather permitting sport. _________________ http://www.cavittscustoms.com

A big thanks to the admins for adding the yak section. I've been a pier fisherman all my life and some of my best memories are from fishing with my Granddad from piers.
But, like Ernie said, Yak fishing is addictive. There is nothing like being on the level with your quarry. A flotilla of yaks is a blast.
By the way, I took a FF/GPS out on my yak. The water depth at PCB is in the 45 to 50 foot at 1/2 mile off the beach and 60 feet in some spots at 0.6 mile.
Great opportunities there.....

Ernie pretty much summed it up, thanks so much for adding a kayak section. The forum has really taken off, I know us PC folk use it a lot!
I do have to add something about the PFF. I have been a member since the beginning even before when it was "the fish the bridge site" so about 7-8 yrs. So I have seen it evolve. Chris Cotour who started & ownes the PFF is a real standup guy, I've hung out with him at get-togethers several times. Busy guy and has sort of let the moderators keep & eye on it. Only steps in when needed. Anyway there are a ton of members so of course there will always be some bickering boat vs pier will always be... anyway a few bad apples really make it look bad. I did receive a pm stating from Chris that Tex is allowed back all he has to do is email Chris C. Whatever Tex decides is his perogative.
But a pier forum really was needed for our fishing community & I really appereciate Obie & Calvin stepping up to the plate - you guys are awesome!! _________________ http://www.cavittscustoms.com

Thanks for the kind words Linda.
I have nothing bad to say about the PFF but a small percentage of the membership over there seem to think they are the gravy on the potatoes. The fact is those same members drove me away (I was also a member from way back on the bridge forum). That motivated me to commission the ECPFF, so in a way the ECPFF should thank the PFF for it's creation. Moderation is essential for a clean and health house and I've never had a problem culling out the lizard and toad fish who sometimes come to here to play. _________________ Go Fishing you can't catch them sitting on the couch!!!

Thanks E&L put the funds are not ready quite yet. I had a nice savings working towards a yak but our Corndog had to have a carcinoma removed and Daisy had to be spayed so I'm back to square one. I'll let you know when I'm back in the market.
